Evening tour of Rhodes Town with dinner and optional transfers

3.8/5
78 reviews

If Rhodes town is impressive by day, wait till you get to know it at night. On this exclusive evening excursion, you'll enjoy a guided walking tour of the medieval town's best bits, followed by a traditional dinner in a family-run taverna. Dimitris, one of our expert local guides, says, ā€œYou'll delve into the historic streets of Collachio and the labyrinthine Burgo, where Greeks lived for centuries.ā€ Plus, with headsets connecting you directly to your guide, you won't miss a single detail.

Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the walled town of Rhodes was built by the Knights of Saint John in the 14th-century. You'll get the lowdown on the history of Collachio, the area hugging the impressive Palace of the Grand Master. It buzzes with life as shops and bars light up in the cool evening air. As you stroll southwards, the area's ordered streets give way to the more chaotic and maze-like alleys of Burgo. This district, dotted with old mosques and historic Orthodox churches, is a joy to wander on foot.

After 90 minutes of learning all about this fascinating slice of medieval life, you'll drop into a typical taverna. Tuck into a spread of traditional dishes made with fresh, local ingredients, and savour the authentic flavours of the island. Once your appetite is satisfied, cap off the high with a relaxing stroll through the vibrant New Town and Mandraki Harbour, rounding out your evening in true Greek style.

Very good guide who was very informative. Was good to see areas that you would not normally have seen. Think group size was too large, range of Whispers is limited & at times it was difficult to hear commentary. Taverna was too small for the number people, staff seemed stressed & over worked which made us feel like we were an inconvenience. Expected food to be a traditional Greek meal not expecting to have meatballs and chips! Meal let the evening down,

The coach transfer was efficient & tour guide was excellent - disappointed with the meal though. It looked so promising when we arrived at pretty taverna away from town square. Bowl of salad, then one little fried patty which we guessed was supposed to be fish cake (but couldn't really taste any fish in it) then two meatballs with a few chips & then small piece of cake. Service was well organised / fast & furious ...so many tour groups being served at once. Lacked any charm!

Our tour guide was excellent, and the tour of the ancient city was both fascinating and informative. Visiting the ancient city is a must when in Rhodes, and I would highly recommend this tour of the city to anyone visiting Rhodes. Unfortunately, the included dinner was disappointing. The restaurant felt crowded and cramped, which detracted from the overall experience. In addition, the food quality was well below expectations and lacked flavour. I would suggest making own dinner arrangements.
