Dominican Countryside Tour

4.5/5
103 reviews

See what everyday life is like in the Dominican countryside. There's a long list of things to tick-off on this half-day trip including a sugarcane plantation visit, a cigar-rolling demonstration, plus coffee and fruit tasting. And if you upgrade to the full day option, there's a Higuey city tour, lunch at a mountain ranch and a beach break, too.

Head out into the open fields of the countryside and our first stop is a sugarcane plantation where you'll learn about the island's all-important industry used for making rum. There'll be a fruit and coffee tasting session at a country home, alongside a chance to see how Dominican cigars are made at a rolling factory.

And if you've booked the full day option, you'll also enjoy a Higuey city walking tour with entry to the famous Altagracia Basilica, a buffet lunch of local dishes, and a stop at Macao beach to swim, sunbathe and recharge.

We were not expecting a full day of driving in an open truck, be aware of that possibility. We started with horseback riding which we were not informed of beforehand, but a welcomed surprise. Then lots of driving to Higuey. Once in Higuey, with the slower driving and no airflow, the truck ride was hot. Lunch was fantastic with traditional Dominican dishes. Maria's house was interesting and everything we got to try there was delicious. Macao beach seemed like an unneeded stop, fairly dirty beach

A stop in Higuey city centre would be appreciated because after all that long journey we only stopped at the church

Broken toilet, broken safe. Had to ask 3x to get service. Other than that, perfect.

Emilio and Montillo were wonderful! They navigated Higuay with ease and provided insight into the daily life of the Dominican residents. We saw beautiful areas outside the city and saw the difference of Macao beach. Thank you, we had a wonderful time.

Pickup from hotel was late we rushed our breakfast please take in consideration the times of breakfast and times of excursions. The tour guide Angel was great from start of 2nd pick-up. Horse back riding a little short, however all the other stops fabulous! The culture of the Dominican people was really informative, Basilica church, Coffee, cocoa making, lunch, the beach was beautiful. Thank you!
