Saona Island highlights boat tour with buffet lunch

4.1/5
1213 reviews

Total relaxation awaits on this full day cruise to Saona Island's dazzling shores. You'll explore this tropical daydream Caribbean Isle, soaking up the sun and the vibrant colours while you stroll along palm-shaded beaches. First up is a coastal tour of Cotubanama National Park, then you'll stop at a natural pool for a dip before heading to the beach for lunch and free time. Ramon, one of our expert guides, says, ‘Our priority is to protect our pristine environment and all the species that make Saona so special. We were the first country to protect manatees by law, and we have a turtle conservation programme here on the island, too.'

After a relaxing cruise over to Saona, the sightseeing can begin in earnest. You'll cruise the shoreline of the Cotubanama National Park while your local guide points out the island wildlife. See the rocks of El Peñón, and then glide through the Catuano channel. Next, it's time to cool off in the azure water of the natural pools, formed by sandbanks in the open sea. The water is such a tempting shade of blue you won't be able to resist.

Docking at one of Saona Island's fabulous beaches, you'll step off the boat for some beach time. There's the Caribbean for paddling, soft white sand to dip your toes in, and a volleyball pitch to play on. Or you could take the simplest option and just stretch out in the sun. After your tasty buffet lunch is served, there's more free time to enjoy the magical setting.

We were picked up at 7.40 to return back to the same hotel at 8 for other guests - was told 1hr 20 for travel time - was 2 hours - waited for a boat to collect us not until 11.30 until we set off which had to be a second boat as not enough room for us on it. Once on the boat we had to sit on the floor as was no room for us on a seat. Badly organised with ridiculous travel and waiting time - didn’t return back to hotel until 8.20pm Badly organised day with so much hanging around

We left hotel at 7.45am and got back at 7pm but got less then 3hrs on the island, nearly 10 hrs travelling. This should of been made clearer at the time of booking.

The journey was very long and tedious. The scenery on the boat was great. However, the island itself was very boring and lacked entertainment. The food was ok, could have been better. There were lots of flies around the food. Please , please get some food Nets to protect the lunch from flies. The washroom on the island had no water. There were too many vendors. It felt like we were stranded on a island market. Please have at least two swings, hammock and a little walking trail for your guests

A beautiful day with a chaotic ending. The island is spectacular and brings so much calm, but you should know what to expect regarding the transport. The coach ride is lengthy, so definitely bring your own water as none is offered on board. The biggest downside was the catamaran return—they play very loud music, which completely kills the relaxing island vibe you just enjoyed. To add to that, the boat staff heavily requests tips before you dock. Go for the island, but brace yourself for noise,

The speedboat to Saona was fun and much smoother than expected. Saona was beautiful, lots of shade to relax and the sea was amazing. Food was good and plenty to drink. Sadly the catamaran journey back ruined the whole day. What we expected to be a relaxing trip back turned out to be a deafening music on outdated equipment with nowhere to escape. 2 hours with fingers our ears whilst they encouraged everyone to drink and dance. Totally ruined the whole experience and worst 2 hours of my life!
