Dominated by Mt Epomeo, Ischia's a small but mountainous island off the northern tip of the Bay of Naples. With blossoming gardens, spa towns and jaw-dropping scenery, it also makes for a delightful day trip from Sorrento. This one features a scenic drive, free time for lunch and the famed La Mortella Gardens.

First up on this full day tour is the hydrofoil crossing from Sorrento to volcanic Ischia. On arrival, you'll get to know the island with a panoramic drive to see its highlights. There's a break for lunch before the next part of the tour.

In the afternoon, the star of the show is the subtropical La Mortella Gardens. Created and lovingly tended to during decades by English composer William Walton and his Argentinian wife, Susana, they feature more than 300 rare and exotic plants, along with ornate statues and waterfalls. Check out the views from the upper hill over the Bay of Forio, before more free time until it's time to board the boat again.

We enjoyed the gardens and would have liked longer there The sightseeing was okay The issue was the emphasis on the lunch and the timings We were not aware about the length of the day and the complete itinerary and times. This may have affected the day we did the tour if at all

It was a small group. Valentino was excellent very informative with history & other facts about the island & gardens with some humour along the way! Lots of opportunities to take photos & some free time to explore.

In common with other reviewers we would have preferred to eat lunch in the lovely cafe in the gardens. Our guide, Valentine was excellent. He was really enthusiastic and looked after us very well. He was patient and always answered our questions thoughtfully.

Ischia was a lovely island and gardens nice. Whilst we knew that there would be walking in the gardens we did not expect the amount of walking from the ferry to the coach and coach to ferry on Ischia. It was a ridiculous distance and very steep in the heat. The rep wasn't overly concerned how far we were back from the group and didn't ask us if we were having difficulties. There was a junior second rep, who didn't seem to do anything.
