Capri and Anacapri guided walking tour

4.4/5
441 reviews

If the Amalfi Coast is a string of pearls, then Capri is its jewelled pendant. This magnet for celebs since the days of Roman emperors is a must-visit. You'll take the ferry over, then head by minibus to Anacapri in the west of the island for some free time before making the trip to Capri town for a walking tour. Lucia, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘The church of San Michele in Anacapri is renowned for its majolica-tiled floor depicting scenes of earthly paradise and original sin from the Old Testament, and its beautiful dome. The 17th century Santo Stefano church in Capri town has a striking façade, featuring a series of sculptures and reliefs.'

There's often a clutch of A-listers holidaying on this ruggedly beautiful island in the summer months. When you arrive and zigzag up to Anacapri to wander along cobbled alleys of whitewashed houses, you'll see why. Anacapri is located high in the hills, from where the views over the Bay of Naples are spectacular. As well as enjoying a fabulous location, Anacapri exudes a traditional Italian vibe, whereas Capri town is more cosmopolitan.

In the afternoon, you'll be able to compare it with glamorous Capri when you arrive for a walking tour among the jet-setters in the bars, cafés and label-laden boutiques. Lucia adds, ‘Among the best places to see in Capri town are the Gardens of Augustus, which overlook the famous Faraglioni rocks. It's one of the best viewpoints on the island, and the gardens are pretty special, too.'

A great day, early start with hydrofoil crossing to Capri then a bus to AnaCapri. After a brief chat, we had free time. The chairlift to the mountain top is well worth it for the amazing views. Time to explore b4 bus back down to Capri. Again a small walking tour and free time to explore or follow guide to gardens. Recommendations given on best food and drink places. Finally bus back to port and boat trip around the Island( not included in price €25 extra each) again worth it b4 return to hotel.

Hugo was a great guide combining organisation, pace and humour. Great call doing chairlift first.

I read the reviews from previous customers so knew to take cash for the chair lift and ferry and also coverings for shoulders/knees but I feel it would be good to have this on the main trip info. Also the walking guided tour was optional which was good but if we had known that was the bit to see the monastery we might have done it. Hugo did everything possibly to keep things running smoothly, modifying the order to make the day as good as he could and made it clear additions wider optional.

We enjoyed every aspect of the tour, the guide was very knowledgeable and managed to keep everyone's attention 😀, Capri is a beautiful island and the views from the chair lift were spectacular it is a little expensive but you should expect this as everything is brought on to the island and the carried up the mountain by someone. Overall I would recommend this tour.
