Agios Nikolaos Market & Amazonas Park Nature Reserve Tour

4/5
173 reviews

A trip that combines traditional Crete with its wild side. You'll drive through scenic landscapes and wander through the pretty harbour town of Agios Nikolaos – with an optional market visit. But then there's the twist to the tale with a visit to Amazonas Park nature reserve.

After pick-up at your hotel, you'll head to Agios Nikolaos, where you'll have a couple of hours to explore on your own. Pick up tasty treats or souvenirs at the street market, stop for a drink in one of the waterfront cafés or gaze into Lake Voulismeni, which local legend says is bottomless.

Next up, we'll head towards Mirabello Bay in the northeast of the island. Your destination is Amazonas Park, an animal refuge, where you will come face-to-face with some of the world's most unusual, beautiful and endangered animals. You'll also find out about their rainforest environments, and how we can help with conservation efforts.

Trip was well organised and the tour guide was excellent. Time spent at the Amazonas park was just enough to see all the animals and feed the Lemurs. Agios Nicholas is a lovely port with lots of great shops and places to eat. Our only negative was that the market was really small and we were round it in 30 minutes, this may have been due to it being at the end of the summer season.

Spent a couple of hours in agios nicalaos with enough time to get something to eat and shop. Then onto amazonas. Didnt seem like long there but we did manage to see everything there and the lemurs were amazing with climbing on us all and being fed. The guides were good and explained everything. It is quite steep in places but we were warned of this. My husband has copd and he managed it ok.

The market is predominantly fruit and vegetables with a few stalls selling t shirts and clothes but not much at all The TUI reps need to make this clear. Plus for less mobile people the walk to the market is very demanding up hill. Th vane applies to the Amazon as very steep inclines.

Spent an 1 hour & 20 minutes at the beginning & end of the day picking others up from various hotels! I’m not sure we would have gone if we knew that… Otherwise a good day out.

The market was a 15 min walk we had to find our own way back to coach. 1:15 going round hotel pick ups returned to hotel at 5pm Despite being told it was a half day trip
