Pirates of Crete half-day family boat trip

3.6/5
55 reviews

Pirate Tim and Calypso the Parrot need all hands on deck to help track down their long-lost treasure. But first, you'll have to be fully trained in all the skills you need to become a pirate. Yannis, a local guide, explains that there's something for everyone on this trip, “it's full-on fun for the little ones, as the crew really get into character and bring energy and smiles as pirates. But you also get this wild, natural backdrop to the day as you sail past tucked away beaches and swim in sparkling clear waters under the towering cliffs of St Georges Bay.”

Setting sail from Chersonissos Port, our shipmates will make sure you get into the pirate spirit, with face painting and exciting themed games for the little scallywags, and challenges for the older crew members. Plus, there's a treasure map and clues to follow, so make sure you have your sharpest seafaring instincts at the ready.

Then, to take a break from all the swashbuckling fun, you'll drop anchor at St. George's Bay for a dip. This quiet spot is ideal for relaxing and soaking up the views of the sea caves cut into rocky cliffs and the surrounding greenery. It'll feel like you're a million miles from Malia. You'll have around an hour here to stretch out on the fine golden sand and swim in the calm shallow waters that make it a winner for families.

We were told this was suitable for our 2 & 4 year old. This trip is definitely not suitable for any children until the age of 8 I would say. We were dropped off at the marina for 1pm to then be told we weren’t able to get on the boat until 2.30. The weather is 30+ degrees and with two children to just hang around for 1hour30mins is just not acceptable when you have paid £200 for this. There was no staff guiding this and there was no “pirates” like we were told. Totally overpriced boat trip

The ship was visually very nice to be on. The views and journey around was pleasant. The staff were nice but the captain kept lighting up a cigarette at the back of the boat. There were open floor hatches which anyone could have easily fallen in with one rock of the boat. The stairs to upper levels and to get in the sea were very steep. There was no safety advice on swimming in the sea or what to do in an emergency. My four year old enjoyed it but there was a lot of waiting around.

Positives, plenty of activity for the children, good items for them to takeaway Things to improve - vessel safety briefing, no one new where the life rafts or vests were (given the recent vessel sinking this is paramount). Some form of snack or food should be included, whilst we were prepared, many were not.
