Gramvousa Islands boat cruise

4.1/5
442 reviews

This cruise has everything – great scenery, beach time and a helping of medieval history. Everything starts at Kastelli on Crete's northwest coast, where a boat awaits to carry you across Kissamos bay to the Gramvousa peninsula and isles. And to round off the trip, you'll spend a few hours at the beautiful Balos lagoon.

You'll sail past steep cliffs and caves before docking at Imeri Gramvousa isle – ā€˜Imeri' means ā€˜Tame'. Once a pirate hideout, this massive chunk of rock is crowned by a half-ruined Venetian fort. Here, you can stay sunbathing on deck, take a swim or trek up to the castle to drink in the views.

Next, your boat will make its way back to Tigani on the peninsula. Lapped by the fluorescent turquoise waters of the Balos lagoon, it's a beach that looks like something from the Caribbean. Laze on the white sands, take snaps of the views or splash about in the warm water – it's really shallow and stays knee-deep for a long way out.

Very rough ride to Balos. My husband was sick , I know that cannot be helped. No information about life vests, evacuation of boat no boarding cards given out. Loads of people jammed onto boat and beach. We had 7 yr old with us and no umbrellas available as too windy Sand blowing a gale across the beach. Essentially I feel that was a make an easy buck trip. Worst of all was having to wait in the sun for a boat which was due to leave at 3.10 and left at 4 ish. Total chaos on uneven land at dock

Our Guide Christina was excellent. The experience on the ferry was poor. There was no room to sit for the duration of our cruise with groups of 6 taking up tables that would hold 12, and others reserving seats as they walked around the boat. This meant we had to leave Balos and Gramvousa early just to be able to sit down. There were 3 cruises docking in total as we did meaning that both places were considerably crowded even for the busy period. At 300 euros its poor value for money

Good trip to nice beaches. And castle. If the ferry went faster we could have more time on shore

It need to be clearly stated that getting off the boat at the jetty is not for disabled or unsteady on your feet people, it's very rocky and hard under footing, I stumbled quite a few times which led to a big fall where I fell and scratched and cut my left leg from the thigh to the calf on the rocks
