Teide by night from the south and west– English tour

4.6/5
1453 reviews

Tenerife's Mount Teide National Park boasts some of the most breathtaking scenery and views in all the archipelago. Crowned by the volcanic peak of Mount Teide, this natural wilderness takes on an otherworldly quality as the setting sun glazes its ridges and rocks in soft pinks, reds and purples.

The skies and atmospheric conditions above Teide – the highest mountain in Spain – are among the best in the world for stargazing. You'll be driven high up into the craggy wilderness of the national park, with lots of photo stops along the way.

As daylight fades, watch the setting sun fire this landscape in a blaze of colour. Then, once darkness has fallen, we'll continue on to a special viewpoint where your professional guide will map out the night sky for you, explaining the starry constellations. And to top it all, a three-course dinner sets the seal on the whole magical outing.

The refreshment and photo stops were good. The meal was not great and very basic. Two of us ate vegetable lasagna, the vegetarian option which again was ok. The staff at the restaurant were very friendly and helpful. Sunset stop was great and we got some good photos. The star gazing stop was really good, the tour guide’s knowledge was fantastic. The coach driver was quiet but polite and professional. Would recommend the tour but not the meal, maybe have a different meal option.

The ascent of the mountain and the accompanying description was A1, as was the journey through the national park. The highlight of the tour for me was to be the dark sky astronomy. This was a dud as the clouds rolled in, but again the guide excelled, and made the best of patchy conditions. However, the astronomy location was beside a main road where passing cars disrupted any effort to adapt my eyes to a dark sky, and I believe this part of the tour was oversold compared to the advertising.
