Discover Kefalonia tour with Lake Melissani and Fiskardo

4.4/5
764 reviews

Natural wonders, impressive beaches and pretty villages – when it comes to sightseeing, Kefalonia is an A-lister. And on this full day bus tour, you'll see some of its best bits, both above and below ground. Lake Melissani, Drogarati Cave, Fiskardo and Agia Efimia are all on the menu, as well as a photo stop at Myrtos Bay. Georgios, one of our local guides, says, ‘With around 250km of coastline, Kefalonia is home to some of the very best beaches in Greece. But if you can tear yourself away from the pristine sands, there's tonnes more to see and do.'

You'll kick off your adventure on Lake Melissani, for an underground boat trip to Melissani Cave. When sunlight shines in through the opening of this cave, it creates a glistening fluorescent hue on the water below – it's a sight to behold. Georgios says, ‘There are many myths and legends surrounding the history of the lake. Some say it was named after Melissanthi, whose spirit still haunts the cave to this day. Others say it was discovered by a shepherd, who chose to spend the rest of his days here.' You'll also stop by the nearby Drogarati Cave for a chance to see its stalactites and stalagmites.

Next up is a short visit to the port of Agia Efimia, before we hit Fiskardo. Here, you'll have around two hours to explore the fashionable fishing village, do a spot of souvenir shopping or grab a bite to eat in one of its many pastel-coloured tavernas. You'll round off the day at a viewpoint overlooking Myrtos beach. Lapped by clear blue waters, it's one of the most photo-worthy spots in Greece.

Lake Melissani is well worth the trip and Fiskardo is very pretty, however there was not enough time to see it properly, we had a total of one hour and forty minutes which included getting some lunch, by the time we had finished lunch there was about 30 minutes left which included the walk back to the coach, the other stop we made was only for 30 minutes including waling to and from the coach. On the drive home we had an unplanned stop at a shop to encourage us to buy his products for 30 minute

Great way to see the island as there is no public transport my only gripe being that we didn't get long enough in Fiskárdo or the place we stopped for lunch. We didn't have enough time to look around or go in any shops. However the tour guide and driver were very nice and we had the opportunity to see some stunning views. We'll worth the money

Overall the day trip was excellent, Marilina was a very knowledgeable young lady and extremely entertaining. The driver Regina was great too kept us safe on the journey and what a great driver she is. The caves were amazing especially coolness inside after traveling in the heat. All the people in kefalonia guides were friendly. The entire day was great very long though but worth the visit

Our driver & guide Marilna were excellent . The coach was comfy & air conditioning was excellent as needed in 39 degrees. We would prefer not to stop at wine tasting & the brief stop for ice cream & to have gone to the place where the houses are all coloured ( sorry don’t know name) enjoyed the caves & Fiskardo

Very long day with the vast majority of it spent travelling on a warm bus or queuing. From 8:15am to 7:30pm we spent only 3 hours at any of the venues (not including the time spent queuing for Lake Melissani in the heat which slowed down the whole day). The entrance fees for the lake and cave are not included which is stated when booking but it made you wonder where the value was in the trip where otherwise you just got dropped off at a location to explore and buy your own food and drink
