Albania is just a short boat ride from Corfu. This often-overlooked country was closed to outsiders for decades and it's only now really beginning to flex its tourist muscles. On this full day excursion, you'll visit the ruins of ancient Butrint, go for lunch and enjoy free time in Saranda.

The tour kicks off with a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Butrint. Everyone from the Greeks to Romans to Ottomans left their mark on this ancient town. Walking through its ruins is like leafing through the pages of a living history book. Highlights include the amphitheatre and temple.

A woodland stroll up to the Venetian hill fort will give you great views over the national park and the surrounding wetlands. Afterwards, you'll head for a buffet lunch in the hamlet of Karanxh. Finally there's an hour of free time to explore Saranda before returning to Corfu.

Only criticism is the 12hour round trip, from hotel pick up to drop off. Really not an issue, just longer than expected.

The trip overall was very good the guide was very engaging and knowledgeable. Albania is lovely with some stunning views especially from the castle we visited. It was a very day and we did seem to be sitting in the bus at the port for a long time. I think the biggest issue was the 20€ per person port tax that you had to pay in cash which made the trip even more expensive. It was not made clear that you would have to pay this amount at any time.

The cavalier attitude of both transfers to and from the port of corfu to our hotel was outrageous. We were left in a supermarket car park in sidari at 7am in the cold with no facilities by the driver of our first bus to await a second bus which did not arrive for 25 minutes. There was insufficient seating on the ferry to albania. On return, we had to endure a one hour wait on the bus caused by the staff not collecting all boarding passes and then were not taken directly to the pickup

A very interesting trip, especially the visit to Butrint. Would have liked more time there. Our guide was friendly and very knowledgeable. Lunch was excellent. A long day travel wise but I appreciate that logistically it couldn’t be otherwise. Perhaps an overnight stay could be considered in the future?

Food was not catering for all no vegetarian dish could have made a basic pasta dish. Two people nearly had a fall one person was injured. The walks are scary advertise the danger it’s not for all abilities

A very interesting trip, especially the visit to Butrint. Would have liked more time there. Our guide was friendly and very knowledgeable. Lunch was excellent.
