Corfu tour with Achillion Palace and Paleokastritsa

4.4/5
652 reviews

Northern Corfu is all idyllic villages, monuments and rugged coastline. Head into sun-dappled rolling hills to discover Achillion Palace, the scenic Paleokastritsa coast and many other delights. There's also a visit to a kumquat distillery to sample this trademark Corfu liqueur. Spiros, one of our local guides, says, ‘Kumquat liqueur is a uniquely Corfu phenomenon – it's made nowhere else in Greece. It's a part of our Corfiot identity. To learn how this Asian fruit came to the island is a real eye-opener.'

You'll visit some of Corfu's top attractions. First up is Achillion Palace. The palace boasts stirring views of the Corfu coast, and the meticulously landscaped gardens are a work of art. Spiros adds, ‘Empress Sissi of Austria was enamoured with Corfu and its mythological heritage, particularly the story of Achilles, and the palace and gardens are filled with sculptures of Greek gods and goddesses.' The vistas are also top-notch at the seaside village of Paleokastritsa. You'll have free time to visit the Orthodox monastery – admission is free – or the many coves with beautiful beaches. A boat trip can also be arranged here.

Plus, you'll get to sample the trademark flavour of rural Corfu. There's a visit to a family-owned kumquat distillery. Here, you'll learn everything there is to know about this exotic citrus fruit. Marmalade, soda drinks and syrup are just some of the products made from kumquat. But it's the sweet and fragrant liqueur – often sold in Corfu-shaped bottles – that's become an island icon.

Overall an enjoyable and informative tour with a local guide. Only issue we had was the palace was shut for restoration yet when booked the Tui rep did not disclose this info and led you to believe you were still getting a full tour of the palace and not just a garden tour. Kinda felt it was miss sold!

Picked up from the hotel. Tour was really good, our guide was very informative and told you lots of interesting things. Would recommend doing if you want to see other parts of the beautiful island.

From the pick up by the driver to the extensive knowledge of our guide it was a memorable day. The last coffee stop delayed a return to our hotel after a long day and I would rethink this part of the tour. Apart from that it was excellent and we felt cared for. Thank you.

This tour was advertised to us as a tour of Corfu with 3 stops- Archilon palace, paleokastritsa and a kumquat distillery, 4-8 hours. The tour was actually 10 hours long, with 6 stops. The 1st advertised stop wasn't until 11am, after a 8.45 pick up, the palace visit was just a tour of the gardens which did not require a guide, and the kumquat distillery felt like a sponsored visit to a shopping centre. Worst tour I've ever been on, boring, too long and not as advertised. Guide was also not great

I think the main stops are good, but the small stops at coffee shops, if you can call them that, are not necessary at all Ended up being an 11 hour day , advertised as 4-8 hours Very good trip, just longer than it needs to be in my opinion

The guide was excellent, and the driver of the bus was very good. I particularly liked Achillion Palace, which I found very interesting. The stop at the beach for lunch was very pleasant.
