Spend your days soaking up the sun at any of the beaches dotted around the island and discover the different parts of the island – from the buzzing nightlife in Sidari and Ipsos to the secluded charm of Paleokastritsa. Read on to discover the best activities and excursions you can do to make the most of your time in Corfu.

Top 6 things to do in Corfu

1. Explore the streets of Corfu Town

Known to locals as Kerkyra, this UNESCO-listed town is where you can immerse yourself in a vibrant cocktail of Venetian, French, and Greek influences that give color to the island. It’s a hub of good food and wine – dive into Corfiot cuisine with local Greek salads and gyros on the menu. Head to the Venetian fortresses, such as the Old and New Fort, to snap some pics, and explore other top spots including churches, the French-era Liston Promenade, and the Mon Repos Estate, offering a glimpse into the island's past.

2. Time travel with a touch of glam at Achilleion Palace

Built in 1890 as a retreat for the former Empress of Austria, Sissy, Achilleion Palace is a neoclassical marvel boasting stunning architecture, lush gardens – and A-Class views of the island. Her love for ancient Greece and mythology is reflected in its design, and you can’t miss the iconic Achilles statue overlooking the Ionian. Marvel at the imperial history of the palace and enjoy a glimpse of grandeur in Corfu.

3. Head up high to Paleokastritas Monastery

Situated on the northwestern side of the island, the hilltop monastery is a must when on the island. Take a colourful headscarf and get ready to explore its nooks and crannies. Walk up the stairs to reach the intricate bell tower and admire the flower garden – you might even get to greet the monks wandering around. Soak up the views of the cove below. It’s the perfect spot to unwind after your visit.

4. Visit the best beaches and visit nearby islands

While Corfu is an island of beaches and natural beauty, don’t miss the chance to hop on a boat to visit the neighboring islands of Paxos and Antipaxos. Sit back and relax as you glide along the sea, visiting blue lagoons and sea caves along the way. Jump off the boat and swim in clear waters, visit the cute fishing harbor of Paxos. You’ll get a taste of the Caribbean with a swim at Paradise Beach in Antipaxos. Boat tours to the unspoiled islands of Sivota are also a must.

5. Soak up the love at Sidari Love Canal

Located in the north of the island in Sidari – one of Corfu’s top areas for nightlife – is where you’ll find the natural sandstone rocks of the Canal d’Amour. This unique geological formation creates a natural fjord-like canal in the sea and according to local legend, couples who swim here will stay in love forever. A top tip is to head here to watch the sunset. It’ll blow you away.

6. Enjoy a splash at Aqualand Corfu Water Park

With 51 slides, pools and games – all ages will have a blast here. If you’re looking for high-speed and giant drops, whizz down the Hydrotube, or get ready for take-off on the Catapault or 24-meter Free Fall. Float along the lazy river to relax and soak up the sun and little visitors can enjoy dedicated themed areas too. There’s a variety of dining options to grab a refreshing drink or a bite to eat.

Plan your visit to Corfu

The best time to visit Corfu is from late May to early October. The island’s peak tourist season is July and August, with hot temperatures and a lively atmosphere. If you want a more quiet experience, consider visiting in late May to early June or September to early October. You’ll still get nice weather but smaller crowds. Late autumn and winter (November to mid-December) bring cooler temperatures and occasional rainfall, making it less ideal for outdoor activities.

A stay of five to seven days is ideal for experiencing Corfu, allowing time to explore different parts of the island, plenty of beaches, historical sites, and soak up the local atmosphere.

Corfu is overflowing with post-card beaches from top to toe of the island. Paleokastritsa on the island’s west coast is renowned for its crystal-clear waters and lush surroundings, overlooked by the hilltop monastery. Glyfada is known for its golden sands and vibrant atmosphere, perfect for beach activities and water sports. You’ll find lots of natural gems on the east side of the island including Ipsos, Dassia, Barbati and beaches around Corfu Old Town. Head to Kassiopi, Roda or Sidari – to swim in the Canal d’Amour – in the north of the island or down south for some rugged beauty of Kavos.
