The Fundación MAPFRE Recoletos Exhibition Hall in Madrid is a space entirely dedicated to art and culture. Its exhibition area is divided into three galleries which host exhibitions of visual arts, mainly from the period spanning the last third of the 19th century to the post-war era. There are two temporary exhibitions running from 6 June to 30 August 2026:

  • Alejandro Cartagena: Ground Rules. Alejandro Cartagena (Dominican Republic, 1977) has built a body of work which, far from focusing on the ‘single moment’, is structured around seriality and a multiplicity of perspectives.
  • Richard Avedon: In the American West, 1979-1984. Richard Avedon (New York, 1923-2004) combines his celebrated career in fashion with photographic projects of profound social significance, such as "In the American West".

  • Free entry is available for: children and youth under 26 (not valid for school groups); unemployed people; people with disability equal or above 33% (and a companion); members of national, autonomic or municipal museums; members of the International Council Museums (ICOM); journalists; official tourism guides. Visitors entitled to free admission must obtain their ticket at the ticket office - please note that appropriate documentation will be required for access
  • The standard ticket includes an audio guide, accessible via a QR code available in the venue. A mobile device with an active mobile internet connection is required. If you don't have mobile data, you can connect to the free Wi-Fi network available on-site

Remember to bring:

  • Headphones are required to avoid disturbing other visitors. It is recommended to bring your own headphones, although you can also purchase them for €1 (jack type) at the ticket counter, in which case you may need to wait depending on availability
