Timanfaya volcanic tour

This half-day tour is Lanzarote in a nutshell. You'll call in at El Golfo lagoon, journey through Timanfaya National Park and visit the Salinas de Janubio. There's also a sample of local wine to round off the tour.

First up, you'll visit the waters of El Golfo - it's emerald waters have starred in many a Hollywood film over the years. But that's just an appetiser for the main event – the visit to Timanfaya National Park. Famed for its moonlike landscape is dotted with lava fields and black rocks, you'll see the ‘Fire Mountain', to name but a few.

We'll continue the tour with a stop in La Geria for a sip of some local wine before we reach Salinas de Janubio, the largest salt flats in the Canaries. Snap a few selfies with the miles of cotton-white salt mounds as your guide fills you in on the history of this all-important island resource. You'll even get a chance to try some, too.

Great communication of pick up time, and very prompt pick up. Door to door service from and to the hotel. Extremely engaging guide, and a fabulous driver who handled the scary and difficult roads through the National Park brilliantly! Sufficient amount of time in each tourist spot! The only negative is people on the bus changing seats and causing confusion for all. Not the fault of staff, but the result of inconsiderate passengers. Caused a bit of tension beginning and at the end of the tour.

The guide was interesting and engaging. The wine sample was really a sip. Many people were hungry so some kind of snack would have been nice. All the excursions were free entry so it seemed expensive. It was good to see these parts of the island’s history.

Overall an excellent tour. We last did this 20+ years ago before we had children, but this time we had come back with our youngest daughter so wanted to take her to see the volcano and the landscape. The guide and the coach driver were excellent. You need a good and safe / slow driver for the trip as there’s a very windy road through the national park and you want to go slow to a) appreciate it and b) to not make you feel travel sick as there’s lots of bends. Our driver Ismael, was excellent.
