Guided tour of Axarquia, Frigiliana and Nerja

4.3/5
293 reviews

Framed by rugged mountains behind and rocky coves in front, Nerja anchors La Axarquia, the most traditional part of the Costa del Sol. On this morning tour, you'll explore the white village of Frigiliana and the charming coastal town of Nerja. Reme, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘Frigiliana is known as the Pearl of La Axarquia. It was where three cultures converged, and you'll see evidence of this as you explore the town. Above the trio of spouts at the Fountain of the Three Cultures, you'll see three symbols – the Christian cross, the Jewish Star of David and the Muslim crescent. See if you can find these three symbols together elsewhere in the town.'

Set in a dramatic location on the foothills of the Almijara Mountains, Frigiliana is our first stop. You'll have some free time to explore the flower-filled lanes under your own steam. Amble along the narrow, hilly streets of the Moorish old town – the Barribarto – and browse handicraft shops selling all kinds of local produce before we'll break for a glass of wine. The town is consistently ranked as one of the prettiest in Andalusia, thanks to its winding streets paved with pebble mosaics and brightly coloured doors.

Then it's over to Nerja, a coastal town that's retained a typical Andalusian village atmosphere and a vibrant street scene. Here, you'll discover a mazy, whitewashed old quarter crammed with shops and cafés. You'll also head to the famous ‘Balcon de Europa' promontory, which has great views along the coast and of the surrounding mountains.

The trip itself was nice, enjoyed the two places visited but not enough time in each. The guide didn't give a lot of information and consideration was not given to the blind couple on our coach in each of the places visited. The trip was in my opinion overpriced and too short, being less than six hours from start to finish.

Tout dépend de ce que l'on attend des excursions. Pour moi, tout était parfait. Je craignais de ne pas avoir de guide parlant français mais il était vraiment très bien et sympa.

It was ok but it was tiring going round picking up other people from their hotels. It took an hour and a quarter before we were under way and this could be resolved by having two smaller coaches sharing the pick up. Also the bathroom stop on the way was horrendous as the toilet queue was so long i felt stressed with only 20 mins allowed.
