Atlas Mountains 4x4 tour with lunch at a Berber village

4.1/5
51 reviews

If adventure and remote mountain villages are your thing, then this 4x4 ride into the High Atlas Mountains ticks all the boxes. You'll head into the rugged terrain just a short drive from Marrakech and discover typical Berber villages. Yasmine, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘My family owns a large olive grove in the Asni valley. It used to be enough to support my extended family, but due to lack of rain the harvests got smaller and smaller until we had to move to Marrakech. Now, I'm a tour guide, and I'm proud to show guests around the Berber villages I know so well.'

Hop into an air-conditioned 4x4 and start your journey into the High Atlas Mountains. Swap city streets for palm-lined valleys, rose gardens and scented fruit trees as we head out into the wilderness. Photographers will love the widescreen mountain panoramas, and you'll have the chance to see local pottery being made in the traditional way, and buy some items if you like.

We'll stop for a break to sip on a mint tea and try fresh local bread in a typical Berber house, before enjoying some free time to explore the village. Next, we'll take the scenic route through rust-coloured mountains and into the Asni valley, where we'll break for a traditional lunch of local specialities. Jasmine says, ‘I like to check that local olive oil is always served with lunch, and I love to see our guests enjoy it.' You'll round off your 4x4 adventure with a stop at the Tahanaout gorges on the return trip.

Hassan was brilliant with so much local and personal experience knowledge. Ishmail did a great job driving through all the flooded areas within the High Atlas Mountains. Lunch was incredible - great experienced. Loved all the little pit stops to take breathtaking photos

The guide was great and the person driving the car was very good and a careful driver. He gave us information as we drive along. The only thing I have to say is when we booked the tour I told the representative that my wife is diabetic, but the information could not have been passed onto the guide as when we had tea at the Berber village sugar was put in the tea. I had my wife’s tea as she could not have sugar.

Information given by main guide was awesome but some of the information I know isn't true as was told the same 12 years ago. Also our driver was shall we say " not the safest driver " and took unnecessary risks with 4 paying passengers in the car. And as what I would label as a " professional driver" this was unacceptable in my view and the other passengers felt the same.

Excellent your enjoyed the opportunity to see the mountains and appreciate the different landscapes. Stopping at Berber village was a lovely experience and all the people we met were so friendly and welcoming. The guide was very knowledgeable and accommodating when answering questions people wanted to ask, everyone met him with smiles and welcomed us all. The only down side to this was our driver who didn’t seem as engaging as the other 2 drivers on the trip when speaking to other guests

It was a lovely day trip out. Very educational. Got to experience traditional pottery making, tea in a Berber house, and got to see hoe argon oil is made. We stopped along the way to be able to take pictures of the view. We got a taste of the size and life in the mountains.
