Verona day trip from Lake Garda

4.4/5
665 reviews

Immortalised in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, Verona holds a special place in lovers' hearts. You'll get to fall in love with the city on this day trip from Lake Garda, seeing all its main sights as you wander around the history-steeped streets of its old town. Elisabetta, one of our expert local guides, says, “Verona is not just a backdrop for romance; it's a living museum shaped by Romans and Medieval rulers.”

Your guide will show you around, pointing out highlights such as the Roman Porta Borsari and the Roman arena – used every summer for an opera festival. There are also some truly historic bridges over the River Adige as well as a world-class collection of Medieval churches and basilicas.

You'll also see the exterior of the Scaliger Tombs – five Gothic mausoleums for the Scaliger family, nobles who once ruled over Verona. And you'll discover the monumental Piazza dei Signori, location of the Romanesque Church of Santa Maria Antica and surrounded by palaces which have witnessed stories of judges, rulers, and poets who shaped Verona's history. In the centre there's a statue of Dante Alighieri who was exiled from Florence, but welcomed here in Verona. Next, take a look around the Piazza delle Erbe, then there'll be free time for lunch and shopping.

Our bus tour guide Francesco was great and very informative. The local tour guide was also great with alot of local and historical information. Downside was too long free time.

The guide on the bus was terrible, bad jokes talked rubbish and generally was painful to listen to. The guide who done the tour in verona nearly put me to sleep, didn't speak clearly enough, was monotonous in his tone I have up listening. Verona itself was great, I would have been better just walking about myself as I didn't really gain anything from the tour guide

Enjoyed the whole day. The guide, Anna & driver Nicolas? on the coach were excellent . Anna was enthusiastic & although her English wasn’t perfect this added to the experience as everyone joined in to help her along. The city guide Wolf was also very good and informative. The only thing we would change is the 3 & a half hours free time after the tour was too long most people felt 2& a half hours would have been better. Overall we would highly recommend this trip.

Both guides on the bus and our guide in Verona were excellent. The guide's knowledge on our walkabout Verona was outstanding although if I'm being honest it was too much information for myself to absorb on the day. That said I still found it very informative

Efficient travel....arrived in Verona at 9:30 when it was nice and quiet. Set down and pick up close to the centre. TUI guide very good and informative as well as being amusing. City guide also very good and knowledgeable. The free time after the guided tour could probably have been cut by 30 to 60 minutes
