Verona day trip from Lake Garda

4.4/5
527 reviews

Immortalised in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, Verona holds a special place in lovers' hearts. You'll get to fall in love with the city on this day trip from Lake Garda, seeing all its main sights as you wander around the history-steeped streets of its old town. Elisabetta, one of our expert local guides, says, “Verona is not just a backdrop for romance; it's a living museum shaped by Romans and Medieval rulers.”

Your guide will show you around, pointing out highlights such as the Roman Porta Borsari and the Roman arena – used every summer for an opera festival. There are also some truly historic bridges over the River Adige as well as a world-class collection of Medieval churches and basilicas.

You'll also see the exterior of the Scaliger Tombs – five Gothic mausoleums for the Scaliger family, nobles who once ruled over Verona. And you'll discover the monumental Piazza dei Signori, location of the Romanesque Church of Santa Maria Antica and surrounded by palaces which have witnessed stories of judges, rulers, and poets who shaped Verona's history. In the centre there's a statue of Dante Alighieri who was exiled from Florence, but welcomed here in Verona. Next, take a look around the Piazza delle Erbe, then there'll be free time for lunch and shopping.

The tour guide on the coach was very good, but when we got to Verona our male German guide was not very informative , he kept giving us his opinion on Romeo and Juliet, ie he was insinuating he didn’t believe in them, and left it up to us to believe in it or not I also felt he was talking to us like school children having a history lesson. Then after the tour he quickly collected the ear piece device, and left in a hurry without saying goodbye. I also believe we could have done the trip cheaper

It was good but a bit overpriced. The walking tour and the walking to the centre from the bus was too fast for us in our 80`s but the guides were caring and gave clear information.

City guide who gave the tour wasn't very engaging. Time on bus a lot longer than expected and not an 8 hour day.

There was plenty of time to explore and get to know the city. The guide was very knowledgeable and informative and went at a nice pace so the group was all together.

I enjoyed the whole day. We didn’t do the walking tour as we wanted to explore ourselves. Plenty of time to see what we wanted and have lunch. The only downside was the coach. There was no leg room, the seats are too close together and as we were the first pick up we was on the coach 2.5 hours. There was no service stop on this trip, and it doesn’t have an onboard loo.

Well organised trip, good local guide and saw all the highlights of Verona together with adequate free time.
