Mostar City with optional guided tour, Ottoman home visit and Turkish coffee

4/5
328 reviews

East meets west in Mostar – a city where minarets and church spires rise above ancient stone houses. You'll cross the border into Bosnia and Herzegovina and discover sights such as the world‑famous Stari Most bridge and the bustling bazaar. Mostar is a melting pot of cultures and religions, with an old town full of grand Ottoman and Habsburg‑era buildings. Historic minarets and imposing cathedrals rise in the shadow of the 2,000‑metre Mt Velez.

If you've opted for the full experience, your guide will lead you through the cobbled old bazaar, into a well‑preserved traditional Ottoman home and inside one of the many mosques. You'll also enjoy a coffee served in a traditional Turkish house. Afterwards, you'll have free time to explore at your own pace. You can browse old craft shops or enjoy lunch overlooking the Insta‑perfect Stari Most bridge on the River Neretva.

If you prefer something simpler, you can choose the option that only includes transport to Mostar and a guide on the coach. It's ideal if you'd rather explore independently once you arrive.

Although Mostar was beautiful and the guide there brilliant, the coach journey was 5 hours there and 5 back (unrealistic for a day trip) with only 3 hours in the town. The guide on the coach spoke predominantly French with only a few snippets of information in English (we paid for English) We were then dropped off half a mile away from our agreed pick up and drop off point. We were also made to feel uncomfortable by the coach guide for having yo get off the bus at the border due to UK passports.

Excellent trip. Guide was very good knowledgeable & informative. Only hitch was the long waits at border crossings. Definitely need to wear 'sensible' shoes, trainers etc due to the cobbles in the old town/bridge area.

This was a very long day travelling. It took us 4 hours to get there (we were told it would be 2) and 3 hours to get home! Getting across the border took an hour each way. Mostar was a lovely place however we had less than 3 hours there and after the guided tour this left us with only 45 mins free time which just wasn’t enough time. We couldn’t even get lunch! The tour guide in Mostar was really good though. Think twice about booking this over priced trip!

Mostar itself great and our guide there was great. Travelling was long and unfortunately borders both ways was slow. Dangerous factor was bus driver using phone and texting while transporting 45/50 people in a large heavy goods vehicle.

Not enough time to see the town. I would recommend reconsidering if this trip should stay on the list. With the longer waiting times and unpredictability how long they can take because of the entry exit system the trip was very rushed. From our hotel it took us 4 hours to get to Mostar. There we had only 2,5 hours to see the time. Then we had to rush back to the hotels. But the English speaking guide in Mostar did an excellent job in that short time and the heat.

We were delyaed getting to Mostar because the coach driver caused an accident. The driver Miho was constantly speeding, (i was sitting behind him and could see everything) the roads are narrow and winding, the coach often moved into the on coming traffic lane, myself abd my wife did not feel particulaly safe. The driver also had several risky overtakes , which given a few seconds diffrence could have been disasterous. The guide on the bus would speak and laugh with him almost passively encouragi
