Tour of Chichen Itza’s Maya ruins and Cenote Tsukán with lunch

4.5/5
2281 reviews

A duo of Mexican delights await on this full day tour from Cancun. The adventure begins at the break of dawn with a journey to experience the wonder of Chichen Itza, a UNESCO-listed ancient Maya city. Then, wind down with a swim in a natural underground cenote cave. Hugo, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘The early start is worth it – we'll arrive first thing in the morning to experience the magic of the ruins in the soft sunlight and beat the heat'.

A guided tour of the ruined city reveals the stories of this remarkable site. It's not hard to imagine the daily lives of the community that lived here and built these impressive monuments. After the guided tour, enjoy free time to make the most of exploring this archaeological treasure trove as you wish. Hugo adds, ‘This ancient city isn't just about admiring the grandeur of El Castillo, but also about feeling the pulse of the Maya civilization that thrived here centuries ago. Don't miss the Great Ball Court—imagine the echoes of the past as players competed in this very spot.'

Next, you'll be whisked away to Cenote Tsukán. Cenotes are believed by the Maya to be portals to the underworld, and they are revered in traditional culture. Here, you will plunge into the limpid waters, participate in a traditional ceremony and feel your senses awaken in glorious natural surroundings. Afterwards, you'll enjoy a tasty local lunch, savouring the flavours of regional cuisine prepared with fresh, local ingredients.

The guide was very informative, he certainly knew the history of the place. What we didn't like was that it was a very long day, we were picked up at 5.00am and did not get back to our hotel until 5.00pm, we were actually on the coach for 7 hours. It put us off doing any more trips.

Food wasn't great. Some very rude people at the cenote...not staff but other tourists who wouldn't move to allow others to get in and out. No staff near pool to ask people to make way for others. Too many people in the pool at on e. Everything else on experience was fantastic. Guide driver all other staff were dry helpful.

The temples were breathtaking, and the cenote was another magnificent experience. Both were worth the time and money to see. The whole trip felt a bit rushed, and the food wasn’t great. I personally wouldn’t do the trip again, but would always recommend people to go see Chichén Itzá.

The site itself was impressive, however, who allowed that concrete monstrosity to be built around it needs sacking. Plus i have never seen so many vendors trying to sell the same products, entry and exit through the gift shop, this will put me off visiting the again. The site has been spoilt for the sake of consumerism. Tour guide and driver were excellent but the soggy sandwich supplied for breakfast needs addressing.
