This rural adventure is a great way to get to know the Eastern region of the Dominican Republic. Starting with a rafting adventure on the Chavón River, you'll then visit a local village, known as a batey, for a slice of life from the local sugar mill community. Next, explore the typical crops of the area, including a visit to cocoa and sugar cane farms, as well as tobacco and coffee. There'll be the chance to sample some of these products as you go. There's a visit to the Basilica of Altagracia, before rounding off at a typical ranch, where you'll experience local culture and cuisine firsthand.

The safari trip gives you an overall experience of what the island offers. Pascal our guide was very knowledgeable. The group was small only 12 people. As the only English speaking participant he took me under his wing and made sure I enjoyed the tour as a solo traveller. The cocoa farm was an experience in itself, the owner has very eccentric. Definitely worth the cost for value.

Our party of 4, two who are disabled, overall enjoyed the experience. However, Viva forgot to collect us from our hotel! Over an hour later our TUI rep investigated what might have happened but concluded that it was some kind of technical mistake during booking. We were initially offered our money back which was not what we wanted as we were all looking forward to the trip. Finally Viva sent another vehicle for us to meet with the party but we missed the 1st part of the day!

This tour gave the opportunity to see many different things. The boat trip was great the visit to different things like chocolate factory etc. the Lunch location was lovely and Christian was a real character. Denise the tour guide made Sure all nationalities were included and her multi-lingual skills were excellent.

Geared up for the Spanish forgot about us English especially in the coffee plantation. Went on to long there.

Overall experience was very good. Advertised as a English trip however, only 4 x English on bus remainng being mostly Spanish/French. Therfore we had to just absorb the visits and interpret ourselves. The visit to Higuey and coffee plantation being the highlights of the day..
