The iconic Globe Theatre is a faithful reconstruction of the open-air playhouse in which Shakespeare worked, and for which he wrote many of his most famous plays!

An expert guide will provide a fascinating 50-minute tour of the Globe Theatre auditorium, vividly recreating colorful stories of the 1599 Playhouse, the London Shakespeare would have known and the Globe reconstruction process in the 1990s.

Get ready to be amazed as the theatre comes to life and explore how the ‘wooden ‘O’’ works today as an imaginative and experimental space for performance.

Three generations of my family went on this tour (grandmother, daughter and granddaughter). The tour appealed to all three of us. We were given a lot of information about the physical conditions that applied in the Elizabethan period For instance, just how foul-smelling the audience of the time would have been. Our guide also gave us useful information about the best seats: not the front row in case of rain or wind. Our guide, a Spaniard called Javier, obviously knew his subject well but has a light touch. None of us felt bored for an instant.

Important to know

This is a working theatre and due to events, rehearsals and performances, the tour may occasionally not be available or may have to reschedule
The tour runs regardless of the weather. Please wear appropriate clothing and bring raincoats because the Globe Theatre is an open-air arena
There is a maximum of 6 participants per tour
Infants (ages 0-4) go for free and do not need to purchase a ticket
Tours do not go backstage and visitors cannot go on stage
Guided tours are in English, however free information sheets are available in French, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Japanese and Simplified Chinese
Drinks are permitted on tours, as long as they are in a bottle or in a container with a sealable lid
There is a restaurant and cafe located on site
You must keep items of luggage and pushchairs with you: there is no cloakroom facility for the tour
