El Jem Colosseum tour

4.4/5
215 reviews

With an amphitheatre to rival that of Rome, El Jem makes for a fascinating trip back in time. You'll travel from Port El Kantaoui to the colosseum to have a look around. Then it's off to the museum to learn even more about the games and battles that took place there.

You'll be stepping into the age of Gladiator on this half-day tour, which includes a visit to the largest colosseum in North Africa. Once you arrive, you'll have time to explore, taking in the wonder of this vast historic space and UNESCO World Heritage Site. It could once hold up to an incredible 35,000 spectators who came to cheer and jeer the games and battles unfolding on stage.

You'll also have the chance to admire how El Jem, formerly Thysdrus, was hugely important during the time of the Roman Empire. Then cap off your visit at nearby El Jem Museum, where a selection of Roman mosaics and exhibitions on the games provide a captivating insight.

Actual time spent viewing the Roman ruins was way too short. We had about 1hr in total to look around before having to return to the coach.

Really enjoyed the El Jem tour. Everything was well organised and timings were spot on. The air-conditioned coach was very welcome, with plenty of space, and the sites weren’t too busy. Our guide was lovely, friendly, very knowledgeable and spoke excellent English. The driver was friendly too, although a little heavy on the brakes at times, but we never felt unsafe. The extreme heat made the talks harder to enjoy, through no fault of the guide. Would recommend!

The guide was warm and friendly, from the start to the end of our tour he gave a great history of Sousse and Tunisia. He pointed out all things of interest along the way. Whilst at El Jem Museum and the Collaseum he gave great information about the Mosaics and the house of Tunisia and of the Collaseum. The driver was also friendly and courteous. We would recommend anybody travelling to Tunisia to take this excursion. It is truly amazing and awe inspiring. Id recommend for all 👍👏

Det kunne være rart at det var udpenslet 100% at man skulle have fysiske penge med. Vi havde desværre kun kort med og vi kunne hverken købe vand eller souvenirs på turen.
