It's easy to get lost in Funchal's jigsaw-like jumble of cobbled streets – so a great way to explore is with a city sightseeing hop-on hop-off bus ticket. The Blue Line Iconic circuit ticks off top sights like the exotic gardens of Monte Palace, as well as the ‘Painted Doors' art project in Funchal's old town and the produce-packed farmer's market. You can opt for the Red and Blue Essentials ticket for all the main sites, plus a guided walking tour that takes in the Marina, São Lourenço Fortress and the market.

The ports for information on the island weren’t working which was why we booked as we wanted to learn more. Due this it might as well be a normal bus which is a lot cheaper at 2.05 euros. Very disappointing.

The buses were really regular and really good value for money to get us to where we wanted to go.

On the red route the audio was OK and informed us of the stops but other than camara de lobos there were no stops of interest outside the city centre which we didn't need a bus for On the blue route the audio told us about interesting historical events but didn't tell us where we were and what to get off at that stop for so ended up getting off a stop after and walking back to where we wanted to be. The blue route only really went to Monte so could have got a bus for €2
