Tucked up near the mountainous Bulgarian border lies Lake Kerikini – a vast area of marshland that's a haven for rare plants, birds and wildlife. Going where coaches can't, you'll travel by both boat and off-road vehicle to explore all the hidden corners of Greece's premier national park. And after adventures on both water and land, there's a well-earned lunch of local favourites to enjoy.

It all starts in a traditional boat called a ‘plaves', to glide along the water and admire the idyllic natural scenery. Lake Kerikini is the premier birding site in Greece, so coming to a complete stop, you'll hear the sounds of over a thousand birds around you.

Afterwards, well-equipped off-roaders will take you to places around the lake where you'll realise what 4X4s are needed for. Powering through mud-puddles, you'll follow no particular road as you zig-zag through the park. Back at base, a well-deserved lunch is served, washed down with a few drinks to end the day.

4x4 could have been slightly better spent more time driving through trees expected more going through water and seeing more wildlife although we did see the buffalo which was great. Guide was fantastic really involved everybody. The lunch was spectacular so good and so much

Das Mittagessen war nicht nur reichlich auch von ganz außergewöhnlicher Qualität in einem wirklich schönen guesthouse. Die Jeepfahrer zu den Büffeln hatten Freude, uns alles zu zeigen und die Sprachkenntnisse der Reiseleiterin waren hervorragend. Unsere Bootsfahrt war schön, Pelikane und Kormorane in der Ferne. Der Stausee ruhig, wir glitten durch beeindruckende Natur. Der gute Busfahrer hatte für unseren Geschmack zuviel achtziger Jahre Musik aber das war dann auch nicht wichtig..;-)

De gids vertelde in begrijpelijke taal wat wij moesten weten. Goede vriendelijke chauffeur. Een geweldige dag met een mooie boottocht en naar de buffels met een echte of the road ervaring in een 4x4. Afsluitende vleesmaaltijd was heel erg lekker.

Ich erlebte dies als wundervoll, wunderschön, sei es die Fahrt, die Natur, die Tiere,die Guides, die Einheimischen,der Empfang, die wunderfeinen Speisen, die Flexibilität…einfach alles…..einzig beim Zurückfahren noch griechische Musik….beim Hinfahren der 1. Kaffee-/WC-stop-denn er war kurz : da hätte ich von den mitfahrenden Gästen/Kunden in dieser Sit.gesunden Menschenverstand gewünscht bzgl Kaffeewünschen -bei allem Verständnis( die jungen Leute gaben wirklich ihr Bestes) Sonst alles top!

The tour guide Claire was amazing. Very friendly and informative in both languages which supported the clientele of the trip. She made the trip very interactive and fun. Good was amazing and well catered for as vegetarians, although portions were way too large. These could easily be a lot smaller. I really enjoyed the trip. Even though the bus journey was long, there is lots to learn and see still which is fantastic. The boat and 4x4 were both good experiences also.
