This two-day trip from Las Vegas takes you past the Hoover Dam and along Route 66 before arriving at quieter, less-visited viewpoints along the canyon rim. You camp overnight in the gateway town of Tusayan, close enough to be back at the rim for the first rays of the morning on day two.

After sunset over the canyon, the group heads to Tusayan, a small town just outside the park boundary. The evening is yours. Gather around a campfire under the desert sky, eat at a local restaurant or soak up the atmosphere in one of the town’s bars. Sleeping this close to the canyon means you skip the crowds. While day-trippers from Las Vegas are still on the road, you're already at the rim, watching the first light hit the rock layers below. That early-morning quiet, with the canyon stretching to every horizon, is what makes the overnight stay worth it.

The drive from Las Vegas heads east towards the Grand Canyon, stopping first at the Hoover Dam where you can take in the scale of this engineering landmark and photograph the Colorado River far below. From there, the route picks up a stretch of the historic Route 66 before continuing towards the canyon. Arriving at the South Rim, you head to lesser-known viewpoints away from the main crowds. As the sun drops, the canyon’s rock layers shift through shades of red and gold. After sunset, you drive the short distance to Tusayan for the campfire evening.

Wake up near the canyon with a full morning to explore at your own pace. Join a guided hike deeper into the canyon or along the rim, take part in a ranger-led programme or revisit the viewpoints for photos as the morning light changes. Later, regroup and begin the journey back to Las Vegas, arriving by evening.

The camping location in Tusayan is a settled town with restaurants and facilities. You will be away from your Las Vegas hotel for one night. Let your hotel know you will be away. There is no need to cancel your Las Vegas booking. The night is spent camping in the gateway town of Tusayan, just outside Grand Canyon National Park. You return to Las Vegas by evening on day 2. Pickup and drop-off is available from hotels within three miles of the Las Vegas Strip.

The tour includes return transport from Las Vegas, Grand Canyon National Park entrance fees, a subject expert guide, overnight camping in Tusayan and a campfire evening. The tour is available in English, Italian, French, Spanish and German. Meals, drinks and water are not included. Dinner on day 1 is at local restaurants at your own expense. An optional helicopter flight over the canyon is available at extra cost through your guide.

The Grand Canyon South Rim is accessible year-round. Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) offer the most comfortable temperatures for hiking and camping. Summer months are hot during the day but evenings cool down. Winter brings cold nights and occasional snow at the rim. This tour departs on Saturdays only.

A moderate level of fitness is helpful, particularly if you choose to hike on day 2. The tour itself involves walking at viewpoints and along rim paths, which are generally flat and paved. Optional hikes into the canyon are steeper and more demanding. You should be comfortable sleeping outdoors in a tent. The minimum age is 7 and the tour is not wheelchair accessible. Solo travellers are paired with a tent partner of the same gender.
