Dalyan riverboat tour with market and Turtle Beach visit

4.2/5
19 reviews

You'll seamlessly flow from modern Turkish culture to nature and ancient history on this full-day tour of Dalyan. Your day takes a relaxed pace, much like the slow-flowing river, with time at a local market, a riverboat cruise and an afternoon at one of Turkeys most pristine beaches.

First up, you'll head to Daylan's weekly market for a true taste of the local hustle and bustle. You'll find everything from Turkish carpets to Turkish delight, as well as ceramics and piles of spices – all under the shade of colourful awnings. Be bold and give your bartering skills a try – don't worry, vendors here expect and enjoy a good haggle. After the market, you'll head for a meal at a waterside restaurant, or if you don't choose the option with lunch included, there's free time in town for you to grab a bite for yourself before you board the riverboat.

Take a quick history lesson as your guide points out the Lycian rock tombs that line your path to the sea. They were carved into the cliffs in around 400BC, but you can still see a lot of the intricate craftsmanship as you glide by. The river widens into a lagoon where 180 species of bird make their home, before you dock at Iztuzu Beach – also known as Turtle Beach after the loggerheads who nest here. The four-kilometre sweep of sand divides the river from the sea and is your playground for the afternoon. Swim, sunbathe and relax before your return boat trip to Dalyan.

The boat trip was great, the guide was excellent his historical knowledge was excellent. The only thing I didn't like was the stop of at the market. The day was supposed to be a peaceful day so the last thing you wanted was people around you trying to get you to buy this and that. Apart from that it was great, stop off for food witch we lovely.

Good full day. Appreciated our con coach. Turned up on time and ended on time. Good guide. Market visit nice if you like that kinda thing.... Boat trip pleasant. Good view of historic cemetery carved in rock face and turtles. Nice lunch though I was a bit poorly later, my wife was OK.

You spend most of the day on a long, boring boat ride, with a lunch stop where the food wasn't great. The boat is quite cramped, and you only see the famous tombs for about five minutes. At Turtle Bay, you get just over an hour, and the only turtle we saw was for a split second as we pulled into the harbour. Overall, it's a very long day that wasn't worth it, and I wouldn't recommend it.

Too little time in market . Too long traveling on boats to get to destination. Time was halved on return journey. Food provided for lunch was excellent

The lunch and boat trip itself was good. The tour guide Volkan was also good, very knowledgeable and entertaining. However the visit to Dalyan market was not good. The traders were bordering on threatening, with one woman attempting to grab my money when I was looking at how much cash we had to spend! Others on the trip described similar situations with one woman being deliberately overcharged by €40! The market should be removed from the tours.
