Half-day guided Varosha and Salamis Beach tour with lunch

4.7/5
26 reviews

If you're after a day out that mixes a bit of culture with time at the beach, this trip's a great shout. You'll start by heading over to the northern part of Cyprus, crossing the checkpoint and getting a feel for a side of the island where everyday life and history sit right next to each other. It's all really relaxed and sets the tone for the rest of the day.

Once you're through, you'll make your way to Varosha, once a buzzing resort packed with glamorous hotels, sandy beaches and busy promenades. With your guide leading the way, you'll wander along the abandoned streets, passing crumbling buildings, shops and homes that have been frozen in time since 1974 . It's one of the most talked about spots in Cyprus and it's easy to see why once you're there.

After that, you'll head to Salamis Beach, right next to the ancient ruins of Salamis. With views stretching along the coastline, it's a lovely spot to cool off with a swim, stretch out on a sunbed or just enjoy being by the sea. You'll get a snack-box lunch too, ideal for a quick pick-me-up as you unwind. And if you fancy it, there's also time to check out the ruins before heading back.

We enjoyed the guides extensive knowledge. Years of experience and local knowledge, not just limited to our trip but everything en route and return. Long wait at checkpoints on return. But that was nobody’s fault. We would recommend.

The guide Stavrola was exceptional. She kindly tailored the trip to suit us because of the storm we experienced. She was probably the nicest, most experienced and genuine guide ever. She really went out of her way to ensure we had a great experience despite the bad weather.

Stavrula and George and our Turkish Cypriot ride-along did their utmost to make the day out a memorable one, despite the unseasonal attrocious weather. Stavrula gave us a very interesting commentary, it was particularly interesting to hear from someone involved since the very day the border crossings opened in 2003. I highly recommend the trip and if possible visitors should try to see everything, i.e. not just Varosi ghost town and Salamis beach but Salamis ruins and Famagusta Walled City too.

Our guide Stav was simply fantastic, she was full of knowledge and information as well as also being able to share personal experiences. The coach trip was longer than expected but it was filled with sights and stories.
