Boa Vista full-day 4x4 island tour with beachfront lunch

4.3/5
2483 reviews

Off-road through luscious landscapes and be charmed by Boa Vista's untouched beauty on this action-packed 4x4 tour. Roberto, one of our local guides, says, ‘The Viana desert is Boa Vista's very own chunk of the Sahara. Its sand is blown in from western Africa, creating huge dunes, which we'll rally up and down.' Leave no stone unturned as you visit the shipwreck on Santa Maria beach, before stopping in Sal Rei village and Povoaçao Velha. Plus, there's lunch by the sea in a beachfront restaurant.

The fun kicks off in the Viana desert. Feel the wind in your hair as you rumble over the sand dunes in a 4x4. Then, you're off to discover the rusting shipwreck of Cabo de Santa Maria – a symbol of Boa Vista. Roberto says, ‘There are about 150 shipwrecks on the islands of Cape Verde, but this one is the most mysterious of all. It's a great place to snap a selfie, too.' You'll have a quick stop in Sal Rei for a glimpse at the capital's fishing pier, before a locally-sourced lunch is served at a nearby beach restaurant.

Next up is a pit stop in Povoaçao Velha – the oldest settlement on the island. Have a poke around this isolated hamlet and enjoy a look into local life, before our final stop, Santa Monica beach. Boasting 15km of white sand and undulating dunes, it's no wonder it was voted one of the world's top 10 beaches. The perfect place to end the tour.

The guides were amazing and gave us loads of information! They kept us informed on what we were doing and when. They gave us plenty of opportunities to take photos and even when we couldn’t swim the the main location allowed more time at another stop so we could swim in the sea! Over all an amazing day and I would highly recommended and do it again!

Great 6 hrs but circa £280 for me, my wife and 2 lads aged 12 & 14 classed as adults is shocking. 8 people per truck £560…wow !!! The lunch was poor, our 2 boys had pork, it was awful…all fat and bone you needed a chainsaw to cut, clumpy tasteless rice and oily veg, huge let down especially with hungry kids. Also rep Steffan said we would be having a pudding but we saw nothing. Steffan was a great guide and a great driver. SHOCKING THAT KIDS OVER 12 ARE CLASSED AS ADULTS !!!

Perfect! Paolo was an amazing guide, such knowledge, great humour and courteous. Sandboarding was fun; Sal Rei was lovely; restaurant for lunch was best meal we had all week; church was humbling; and the force of the waves at Santa Monica was impressive. Thoroughly recommend : )

We’ve done this tour every time we visit Cape Verde. It’s amazing! The shipwreck is worth seeing but won’t be there for much longer. The guides are amazing especially Paulo and they make it more fun and realistic. The roads are very bumpy but good fun. Food is lovely and amazing views in the beach bar. Would definitely do this trip again next time I visit.
