Nessebar Tour with Wine Tasting Experience

4.5/5
60 reviews

A famous Balkan beauty spot and Bulgaria's best wines are in store on this great day out. You'll embark on a walking tour of UNESCO-listed Nessebar and visit one of the Black Sea's top-rated wineries for a wine tasting tour. Elena, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘For a thousand years the church of Saint Sophia was one of the most important religious sites in the Black Sea region. It was built in the 5th century and it's one of the oldest churches anywhere.'

It all begins with a guided walking tour of Nessebar's old town. Crammed into a narrow peninsula jutting out into the Black Sea, this old part of the city boasts such a wealth of artifacts that it's a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are so many layers of history here that archaeologists have had to study the underwater remnants of the town to understand its history. They discovered that it was first settled by the Thracians followed by Greeks, Romans, and Ottomans.

Wander winding streets fringed with old timber homes wedged between a dozen historic churches, the oldest of which date back 1,500 years. And when the tour is over, you'll have plenty of free time to explore on your own. Rounding off the experience is a visit to the DiVes Estate Winery, where a tasting session sees you sample a trio of Bulgaria's best wines surrounded by countryside scenery. Elena says, ‘The rosé wine is a standout. It is the product of a local Bulgarian grape variety known as Pamid, which thrives by the sea, making a wine full of subtle, fresh flavours.'

Excellent guide, knowledgeable and took the walk around Nessebar at a steady pace, time after for shopping and/or visiting the inside of the churches. Then onto Divas for wine tasting, excellent wine and food overview of the winery process. Only disappointment was w had a thunderstorm so unable to walk round the vineyard

The bus taking us had an issue so we had to change buses en-route. The tour of Nessebar was ok. When we got to the winery the owner was difficult to hear and spoke more about the awards they had won for the wine. It would have been good to actually look at where they make the wine. A thunderstorm meant we couldn't look outside. The bus taking us back broke down as well.

The instructions for bus stop location was incorrect but luckily the guide found me nearby. The first coach had mechanical issues so we had to change into a different one but on the way back it broke down on a roundabout in heavy rain and took some minutes to get going again. The guide was helpful.

Had great trip to Nessebar. Missed the bus due to my misunderstanding of pickup point. Our Tui Rep (Nazir) came along and picked us up and got us to the tour. Nessebar is a lovely place to visit with lots of history. Once finished here, we went on to Dives Winery. We got the history of the area before looking around the winery. We then had an opportunity to try some white, rosa and red wine, where our host explained the process of wine making and how different wines complement food.
