What makes the night special
Viet Hai Village sits so far inside Cat Ba National Park that the only sounds at night are jungle and the lap of water against the stilts. Your bungalow is the overnight base, and once the sun sets, the real spectacle begins: a guided kayak into waters lit up by bioluminescent plankton, glowing a vivid blue-green with every paddle stroke. There's even the option for a night swim among the glowing plankton.
Board your boat at Ben Beo Pier and sail into Lan Ha Bay, passing the traditional Cai Beo Floating Village and towering limestone karsts. Vietnamese lunch is served onboard as you cruise deeper into the bay. Afternoon kayaking through quiet lagoons and rock archways — keep your eyes on the cliffs, as this is golden-headed langur territory. Swim at Ba Trai Dao Beach, visit a floating fish farm and join a cooking experience on board. After dark, a guided kayak reveals glowing bioluminescent plankton, with an optional night swim. Arrive at Viet Hai Village to sleep in your jungle bungalow.
After breakfast in the village, set out to explore Viet Hai by bicycle, cycling through lush jungle paths and soaking up the pace of remote island life. Try a natural fish massage in a nearby stream before returning to the boat. Continue to Monkey Island for beach time, a hike to the panoramic viewpoint, or watching the island's resident monkeys go about their day. Tuck into lunch onboard as you sail back to Cai Beo Harbour, then transfer to Hanoi or Ninh Binh.

You'll be away from your hotel for one night, staying in a jungle bungalow in Viet Hai Village inside Cat Ba National Park. If you're on a TUI package holiday, this replaces one hotel night. Let reception know you'll be away — no cancellation needed.
The price covers: roundtrip transportation from Cat Ba, guide, one-night bungalow stay, all meals (lunch and dinner on day one, breakfast and lunch on day two), day kayak, night bioluminescence kayak and hike tour. Drinks, entrance fees, and transport to Cat Ba from Hanoi or Ninh Binh are not included. No booking fees.
October to April is the most popular window for Lan Ha Bay — cooler temperatures, lower humidity, and clearer skies. October to December tends to be the driest. May to September is warmer and wetter, with occasional storms. The experience is weather-dependent, so a cancellation policy applies.
A moderate level of fitness is needed. The tour involves kayaking (day and night), cycling around Viet Hai Village and an optional hike to a viewpoint on Monkey Island. Minimum 2 participants, maximum 15 overall (maximum 10 for kayaking and hiking groups). Bring sunscreen, a hat, insect spray and water activity gear. A passport is required for check-in.
