Gibraltar day trip with dolphin-watching boat tour and Rock visit

4.2/5
248 reviews

An exotic blend of the familiar and the unusual, Gibraltar is a must-visit. This tour ticks off all its top attractions – the Barbary apes, the Rock and Main Street. And to top it off, you'll set sail around the Bay of Gibraltar for the chance to spot dolphins along the coast. Rosa, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘Gibraltar's monkeys are the most accommodating wildlife around. Unlike dolphins, you don't have to search for them – they come looking for you, especially if you're holding food.'

The fun kicks off with a boat trip in the bay to look out for dolphins. Three species – bottlenose, common and striped – are known to frolic in these waters. Then, back on dry land, head for a guided minibus tour of the Rock of Gibraltar, which juts 426 metres above the Mediterranean. You'll stop at Europa Point, where there are many famous monuments, a mosque and a historic Christian shrine. Plus, you'll also visit the Rock's recently renovated St Michael's Cave, which now hosts an auditorium.

At the Upper Rock nature reserve, you'll meet the free-roaming Barbary apes – Europe's only wild monkeys. There are about 300 monkeys on the Rock. A local legend says that if the monkeys disappear, Gibraltar will stop being British. Back at ground level, Gibraltar's town centre has a distinctly British feel to it. Head to Main Street, where many of the British high street chains have outlets, for a mooch around its duty-free shops.

The bus rep/ guide was very poor leaving us stranded at times not giving correct info and we had to ask the driver where to go at times , the tour guide on the rock was excellent giving us time with the monkeys and giving a lot of knowledge, the dolphin trip was also good as we see the dolphins, a very long day with no time food food etc was explained not a lot of spare time just t for lunch but we didn’t get .

The trip was was very good however it was very rushed between the activities. We barely had time to go to the toilet or get anything to eat which was tricky with young children. Trip should be longer to reduce the need for everything to be so rushed. Both organised activities were very good though

there was no time for free time. most of the trip was just a bus journey to gibraltar. everything was so rushed that we didn’t even have time to stop to eat or drink anything, didn’t get to do any shopping as it was all such a race. literally felt like a day of bus journey.

Tour was good. No thought on people who had some mobility issues but a walk. Lifts didn’t work at steps and to do dolphin trip you had a 15 minute walk both ways. Guides were excellant

Our tour bus was double booked. Was ment to be English tour but it was all in polish so we didn’t understand anything about the landmarks. We was rushed through the cave and monkeys in 15 minutes. Really bad experience and when I told my rep on holiday sight I was offered a bottle off champagne and a £50 voucher. I was in a party of 8 and I find this very insulting to be offered so little on a trip that cost nearly £700. I am in the process of trying to get a refund only on the cave and guide.
