Casa Batlló is one of Barcelona’s most iconic buildings and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Designed by Antoni Gaudí, this architectural masterpiece immediately catches the eye with its flowing forms, colorful mosaics, and almost fairy-tale-like appearance. A visit to Casa Batlló is a must during any stay in the city. Between 1904 and 1906, Gaudí completely transformed the building on behalf of businessman Josep Batlló. What had originally been a conventional house dating from 1875 became a work of art in its own right. The façade, covered in shimmering ceramic tiles, is often said to reflect the colors and movement of the Mediterranean Sea. The roof, which resembles the back of a dragon, references the Catalan legend of Saint George (Sant Jordi).
The interior is just as remarkable. As you move through the house, you'll discover flowing spaces with hardly a straight line in sight and rooms that evoke an underwater world. Thanks to the central lightwell, lined with blue tiles, natural light reaches every corner of the building. Casa Batlló is much more than a historic landmark.
It is an immersive experience where architecture, nature, and imagination come together.
