Pompeii archaeological site half-day tour with a local guide and optional transfers

4.6/5
713 reviews

Of all the Roman ruins in Italy, none is as poignant or fascinating as Pompeii. More than a moment frozen in time, it's a window into the past. You'll discover its remarkably well-preserved houses and landmark sites on this morning excursion to this UNESCO Word Heritage Site.

Buried under volcanic ash by the 79 AD eruption of Mt Vesuvius – which still looms large in the distance – Pompeii brings to life ancient Rome. You'll tread the cobbled streets brought to life by a two-hour guided commentary through headsets.

All the major highlights here are covered – the forum, thermal baths, gymnasium and the market piazzas. You can still see frescoes on the walls of the homes of the Roman elite. Walking through its ruins is like leafing through the pages of a living history book.

Good reliable pick up and drop off, we didn't want to spend hours on site, it's a big place and in the heat, very tiring. Salvatore, our guide, was absolutely fantastic, very knowledgable, probably saves you an hour plus as he knows where he's going and is constantly feeding you information, can't fault this trip at all.

Ernesto was a fabulous guide, courteous, knowledgeable and enthusiastic, with a great sense of humour. He was mindful of how hot it was, keeping the group in the shade, making sure we had comfort breaks. Telling us where to get refreshments and where the cleanest toilets were. We were immediately at ease in the group. Everything was so fascinating. Our driver was also wonderful, we got there safely and promptly. Thank you for a really wonderful morning.

All good. I was a little concerned booking online, not knowing what to expect. However, it was a professional tour, reminded me of a school trip, but in a good way. The guide was excellent, friendly, knowledgeable and managed the groups needs and timing really well. 10/10👌

At a cost of around £90 per person for a 5 hrs excursion, it was worth it for the door to door service on a visit to the site of Pompeii. The guide talked about history of Sorrento and the surrounding area on the way and was very informative whilst taking us on the full 2 hours guided walking tour of Pompeii. The weather was extremely hot and she did her best to keep us shaded as much as possible whilst pointing out all the most interesting aspects of this archaeological site. Great trip.
