Tickets to Zanele Muholi exhibition at the Serralves Museum

This compelling display features over 200 photographs by South African visual activist Zanele Muholi. Covering two decades of both artistic and political endeavours, it provides an emotional and thought-stimulating journey through themes of identity, resistance and social justice.

Arranged chronologically and thematically, the temporary exhibition showcases intimate portraits, striking self-images and seldom seen works that celebrate Black LGBTQIA+ communities. Discover Muholi's acclaimed series Somnyama Ngonyama, which challenges perceptions of race and gender through daring visual expression.

The exhibition encourages contemplation on issues such as colonial history, memory and human rights, making it both current and deeply significant. Your visit unfolds on the lower floor of the Serralves Museum and includes several immersive environments. A series of public talks and events is also planned, providing further insight into Muholi's work and the topics it addresses.
