Combine culture and nature on this tour to Silves and the Monchique Mountains. The capital of the former Kingdom of the Algarve, Silves is a pretty maze of whitewashed streets under a red fortress and two-tone cathedral. Enjoy free time here before heading to Foia, the highest point of the Monchique Mountains, for liquer tasting and some more free time to grab lunch or take in the sights.

Only 12 people on our tour so lots of room on the coach. Our guide, Ana was informative and helpful. She gave us lots of facts & history as well as pointing out interesting things about the landscape & showing us the storks that live there. Good amount of time to visit the castle (Eur 2.65 entry fee pp) in Silves and buy lunch in Monchique. Our coach driver did a great job driving up/down steep mountains and delivering us safely back to our hotel. Good value for a full day trip. Enjoyed it.

Overall the trip was very good. If I could make one suggestion for improvement it would be to add 30 mins to the Silves visit, as the time allowed is not long enough, and reduce the time in monchique which was far to long.

I loved this trip. Silves is a beautiful town with a stunning castle with amazing views and ancient walls and remnants of the Moorish period. Monchique is up in the mountains and very different to the coastal resorts, with beautiful views and lots of nesting storks. There's a fascinating ruined convent, as well as lovely local honey and spirits and hand made crafts. The views from Foia are incredible despite the masts. The guide Dominique was great, just a pain having to change coaches!

Plenty of time to explore both Silves and Monchique. Guide was very good advising where to go and landmarks; also very helpful with the location of public toilets (essential for people of a certain age!). High quality bus with air conditioning.
