World War II and Third Reich walking tour

4.7/5
12 reviews

For 12 years Berlin was the capital of the Third Reich. Hitler’s reign began in 1933, spread across Europe and collapsed with the Battle of Berlin in 1945.

Discover the consequences of the ‘Thousand Year Reich’, including the ‘T4’ euthanasia program, the killing of hundreds of thousands of Sinti and Roma, and the murder of millions of Jewish victims in the Holocaust. Learn about the fate of Berlin’s Jewish district, visit the site of the former SS & Gestapo Headquarters at the Topography of Terror Museum, and see the destruction caused by Allied bombing in WWII.

You'll also be taught about how the National Socialist Party rose to power and how Joseph Goebbels’ propaganda strengthened the party’s grip on the German people. Find out how Albert Speer planned to make Berlin into Germania, capital of the empire of the world and stand before Hermann Göring’s sprawling Luftwaffe HQ.

The tour will finish in the place in which the Nazis' reign of terror came to an end - in front of Germany’s parliament, the Reichstag, where Soviet forces were placing their flag above a ruined Berlin, whilst the Führer prepared to commit suicide not even 1km away.

Jonathan N (JN) Enormous amount of info available from JN filtered for our benefit, with some good humour - much appreciated. Suffered from the very cold conditions especially at the end of the walk. Now have much better handle on the history & relevance for today. bought 4 rail tickets unused?

Guide James had excellent knowledge about its history and crammed alot into the 4 hours. Highly recommended. Perhaps a bit more time for lunch. But all in all very good.

The guide was excellent, and very knowledgeable. They explained things very well and were happy to answer any questions we had. I thought the value for money was good, although for the price, I might have expected the cost of the metro ticket to be covered. At approximately 4 hours, including a half-hour break for lunch, it is a long time to be walking, especially if it is cool or not so nice weather. But overall I was impressed and would recommend this tour to anyone interested in history.

Wonderful tour, our guide, Eran, was full of informations told in a interesting and exciting way. I would recommend this tour to all history buffs out there, coming to Berlin, to take the tour, and have a broader sight of the past times during the Nazi regime.
