Grossglockner Scenic Tour

4.7/5
68 reviews

With a snowy summit scraping the sky, the Grossglockner is one impressive alpine peak. Venture to the base of Austria's highest mountain for a chance to meet marmots, hit the museum or just take in grandstand views across the landscape.

Journey through green pastures and rolling hills and you'll make the steady climb towards the base of Austria's highest peak – the Grossglockner. Arrive almost 2000m above sea level to enjoy striking views across the landscape and the chance to learn fascinating facts on the mountain's past, present and future in the museum. And if you're lucky, you may even spot a marmot or two – oversized squirrel creatures that call these parts home.

Afterwards, you'll wind your way deeper through High Tauern National Park – there's over 300 peaks alone here, as well as alpine scenery that mirrors classic film The Sound of Music. Along the way, you'll stop off at a café for an Austrian favourite, coffee and cake.

George, the guide was really knowledgeable about the tour and shared this the the group. Amazing scenery and really interesting to hear about the glacier. The transfer was long, due to pick ups, but if those staying in well am see, it was perfect. But even so, the day was well worth the travel.

An overly long day from Kitzbuhel. It would have been much better without the pickup in Zell am Zee

Great trip to see stunning scenery. Georg is an excellent guide and made sure our experience was extra special. We were blessed with beautiful weather and we got to see plenty of cute marmots! The only downsides were people feeding the marmots, which is detrimental to their long term survival, and the fact that the glacier is receding so much. I doubt there wIll be a glacier at all within the next few years.

Journey broken up with scenic/comfort breaks. Good amount of time at destination. Guide very informative and available - very good attention to safety e.g. tips on coping with altitude changes. The driver was excellent given the nature of the road.

A tour not to miss! The whole journey has stunning views and gave us plenty of time at the glacier (what’s left of it!). Georg was a great guide- just the right balance of being informative but also relaxed. And a shout out to our driver, Peter, as I wouldn’t have liked to have tackled all those hairpin bends myself!
