Khor Virap and Noravank Monastery private tour with wine tasting

Begin at the historically and religiously significant Khor Virap Monastery, offering unparalleled views of the biblical Mt. Ararat. This location holds particular importance as it is the site where Saint Gregory the Illuminator was held captive, and Christianity began to take root in Armenia.

From there, the journey proceeds to Armenia's Wine Region. A highlight of this area is the Areni 1 cave, renowned for its archaeological findings that provide evidence of intricate burial rituals and agricultural practices from days long past. The most intriguing artefacts discovered here include a pair of leather shoes dating back over five thousand years and what is believed to be the world's oldest known winery, with an estimated age of around 6100 years.

The excursion then takes you to Noravank Monastery, an exceptional example of medieval Armenian architecture featuring a two-storey main church. Nestled amongst towering cliffs and deep valleys made of red and orange volcanic materials, the monastery offers a truly striking sight. Finally, a visit to Areni village - the heartland of Armenian winemaking - allows you to sample some of the finest homemade wines. It is, after all, the place where wine was first created; a tasting experience not to be missed!
