Tunisian Camel Caravan Tour

4.3/5
70 reviews

There's still no better way to explore the Tunisian countryside than on the back of a camel. This caravan adventure allows you to become sultan of the sands and discover aspects of traditional rural life in Tunisia.

We'll pick you up and bring you to Kantaoui, where you'll meet the camels before riding off on your adventure. You'll be on a dromedary – single-humped – camel from just before 10:00 till about midday.

During the trail, there's a stop at a café, where you can enjoy a drink and observe locals bake tabouna – a small but filling flat bread that's a staple on every Tunisian table. As traditional Tunisian activities go, it doesn't really get more authentic than a camel caravan.

It was a really fun experience in the warm weather but there were non-compulsory hidden costs that would’ve been nice to know about beforehand otherwise it may feel a bit pressurising. Friendly atmosphere and delicious traditional bread

This Activity sold to us buy Tui , should check the health of the animals, on this occasion a poor horse was not in a fit state to pull a cart , this was seen by my self and other members of our group , is it that Tui put money before the health of the Animals, this is not nice to see this horse struggle or go through this , the price Tui charged for the Activity was a lot of money .

The coach was 45 minutes late. Bring cash as the staff will ask for tips. There were 3 of us and we had to share a medium sized camel (far too small for 3 people), squashed and worried we were going to fall off, we arrived at the hosts home. We learned how they made bread and were able to enjoy a sandwich and fruits. While being there, they continuously asked for tips, offered us pictures from a video recording which was blurry and expensive. Moments of pleasure, ruined by moments of greed.

Tour was overbooked so only had 10 mins on camel and travelled the rest of the experience on a cart pulled by a horse. Lot of waiting around at lunch stop on makeshift seats that were all broken with backs that had snapped off. Only time guide spoke to us was to try and get us to buy photos he had taken. Would not recommend at all & couldn’t wait for it to finish and get back to hotel. Coach was 45 mins late picking us up, with no communication & tickets not checked when boarding the coach.

The people were very friendly, the guide took care of us when my kids wanted to ride the donkey and horse instead of the camels, he made sure the people doing the excursion understood and that they got to ride them. Lovely experience. It is very hot in the sun so make sure you are covered up and tale your own water to have before getting to the farm.
