This two-day Sahara adventure from Djerba blends desert landscapes, Berber culture and authentic village life across southern Tunisia. From ancient Ksours and palm-fringed oases to dunes stretching into the horizon, you’ll travel through some of the region’s most striking scenery before spending a night under the stars in a traditional desert camp.
Day one begins as you cross the Roman road from Djerba to the mainland, stopping first at the shimmering Chahbania Salt Lake for photos before continuing to Tataouine. Here, you’ll explore the lively local market before heading into the surrounding Berber villages and Ksours, including the hilltop village of Chenini, where sweeping views open out across the desert valleys. After lunch in a local restaurant, the journey continues to Ksar Ghilane, a desert oasis where you can choose to ride a camel or take a quad bike across the dunes. There’s also time to unwind in a natural hot spring and learn how traditional sand bread is prepared before settling into your desert camp for the night. A Bedouin-style dinner, music and storytelling under a star-filled sky complete the experience.
Wake up to sunrise over the dunes on day two and enjoy breakfast at the camp before travelling onwards to Matmata, famous for its unique troglodyte homes carved into the earth. You’ll visit the village of Tamazret to meet locals and learn about everyday Berber traditions, followed by a stop at the iconic Sidi Idriss Hotel, known for its appearance in Star Wars. After lunch at a local restaurant, the journey continues to Toujane, a mountain village celebrated for its panoramic views and traditional crafts, before returning to Djerba in the late afternoon with unforgettable desert memories.
