Fuerteventura Las Peñitas and Ajuy guided hiking tour

Discover three of western Fuerteventura's most distinctive natural and cultural landmarks on this tour.

Your first stop is the valley of Las Peñitas, a striking landscape where palm trees create an unexpected oasis among volcanic mountains and desert-like scenery. Following a narrow trail carved into basalt rock, you'll hike around 200 metres up to the Ermita de la Peña. This small chapel is dedicated to the Virgin of La Peña, Fuerteventura's patron saint, and is at the centre of an annual pilgrimage and celebrations held each September. The dramatic surroundings have also featured on screen, serving as a filming location for the Ridley Scott film Exodus: Gods and Kings.

The tour then continues to Ajuy, a traditional fishing village on the island's rugged west coast. Known for its black-sand beach and towering cliffs, the area is also home to some of the oldest exposed geological formations in the Canary Islands.

You'll also visit the Ajuy Rock Arch, a lesser-known natural landmark shaped by volcanic activity. Rising 35 metres above the Atlantic Ocean, this impressive rock formation stands in a remote coastal setting, far from modern development.
