Two-day private desert tour from Marrakech to Zagora with overnight Bedouin camp stay

5/5
2 reviews
  • 2 days + 1 night
  • No meals included
  • Light intensity
  • Desert camp
This private two-day trip from Marrakech traces one of Morocco's most dramatic routes. You'll wind up and over the High Atlas via Tizi n'Tichka Pass, through the fortified earthen streets of Ait-Ben-Haddou, and deep into the Draa Valley's palm groves before reaching the golden sand dunes of Zagora. A camel trek at sunset and a night in a traditional desert camp cap off an itinerary that moves from mountain passes to open Sahara in a single day.

Your route

What makes the night special

Take a camel ride into the dunes as the sun sets, and watch the camp emerge in the fading light with Berber-style tents arranged on the sand and lanterns flickering against the darkening sky. Dinner arrives with warm bread, tagine and mint tea, served under a star-filled sky. The silence of the Sahara at night is total; the only sound is the occasional shift of sand in the breeze.

An early departure from Marrakech takes you south towards the High Atlas Mountains, crossing the spectacular Tizi n'Tichka Pass with sweeping mountain views at every turn. Stop at Ait-Ben-Haddou, the UNESCO-listed fortified village known for its striking earthen architecture. Continue to Ouarzazate for lunch near the historic Kasbah of Taourirt, then head south through the Draa Valley, a ribbon of palm groves and ancient settlements. By late afternoon, reach the desert outskirts near Zagora and set off on a camel trek as the sun sets over the dunes. Arrive at your Berber-style camp for dinner and a night under the stars.

Wake early to watch sunrise paint the dunes in shifting colours and light. After breakfast at camp, ride camels back to meet your driver and begin the return to Marrakech. The route passes once more through the Draa Valley and Ouarzazate, where there's time for lunch at a local restaurant, before crossing the High Atlas via Tizi n'Tichka Pass.
