Mount Toubkal stands at 4,167 metres, the highest point in North Africa. This two-day guided trek takes you from the mountain village of Imlil up through terraced valleys and remote Berber settlements to the Toubkal Refuge at 3,210 metres. You sleep there before the final summit push at dawn. The reward at the top is a panorama stretching from the Atlas peaks to the Haouz plains and as far south as Ouarzazate.

The Toubkal Refuge sits at 3,210 metres, surrounded by rocky peaks and open mountain skies. After a full day climbing from Imlil, reaching the refuge feels like a milestone. The air is thinner, temperatures drop quickly after sunset and the silence is broken only by the wind across the rocks. Dinner is served inside before an early night, with the summit alarm set for before dawn. Step outside in the cold morning air and see the peak waiting above you.

Your Toubkal adventure begins with a transfer from Marrakech to Imlil, a mountain village at the foot of the massif. From here, porters take your main bags while you set off on foot, climbing through terraced fields and traditional irrigation canals. The trail passes shepherds and grazing goats before reaching Sidi Chamarouch, where you stop for lunch. From there, the landscape becomes rockier and more exposed as you climb towards the Toubkal Refuge at 3,210 metres, with sweeping valley views along the way. The trek takes around five and a half hours, with an altitude gain of 1,200 metres.

An early start takes you from the refuge along steep mountain paths towards the summit. The climb gains another 1,050 metres over challenging terrain before reaching Mount Toubkal’s 4,167-metre peak. From the top, take in panoramic views across the Atlas Mountains, the Haouz plains to the north and towards Ouarzazate in the south. After time at the summit, descend to the refuge for a picnic lunch before continuing all the way down to Imlil. With around nine hours of walking, it’s a demanding final day before your evening transfer back to Marrakech.

Porters carry your main luggage, and the Toubkal Refuge is a permanent staffed facility used regularly by trekkers. The path to the refuge is a well-established hiking route. A minimum of two adults is required per booking, and the minimum age is 13. You should bring appropriate kit including good walking boots, waterproofs, a torch and a personal first aid kit.

You will be away from your Marrakech hotel for one night. Let your hotel reception know you will be away. There is no need to cancel your Marrakech booking. The night is spent at the Toubkal Refuge at 3,210 metres in the High Atlas Mountains. You return to Marrakech by evening on day 2.

The trek includes return transfers between Marrakech and Imlil, a subject expert mountain guide, and porters for your main luggage. One night at the Toubkal Refuge is included along with all meals: lunch on day 1, dinner at the refuge, breakfast on day 2 and a picnic lunch on the descent. An English, French or Spanish-speaking guide accompanies you throughout. Alcoholic drinks are not included.
