Zermatt & Matterhorn Tour

4.6/5
63 reviews

With Switzerland just a short trip away, this tour makes the most of the gems on Lake Maggiore's doorstep. You'll embark on a journey through the Ossola Valley to reach the Swiss resort of Zermatt, presided over by the iconic peak of the Matterhorn.

You'll need to have your camera handy on this tour as you'll be winding your way from the shores of Lake Maggiore and up through the Ossola Valley. You'll have plenty of time to soak up the scenery and grab a few snaps before taking the rack and pinion railway to the chic Swiss resort of Zermatt, your destination for the day.

Wander the clusters of wooden chalets, enjoy a typical Swiss lunch, and admire the sight you'll not be able to take your eyes off – the Matterhorn. Its jagged, fin-like peak can be seen from all around, and if you want to take a closer look, you're in just the right place to hop on to the Sunnegga Mountain Metro. It takes you to the panoramic Sunnegga Plateau, where you get really special views of the Matterhorn.

Our guide Luca was really knowledgeable and our driver was really good. Lovely scenery and plenty of options of things to do when we got to Zermatt. Felt like we were in safe hands. Fabulous views of the Matterhorn and the mountaineers graveyard was really poignant.

It's a very long day as you'd expect, 0730 to 1830. We found Zermatt itself quite disappointing to be honest, the place wasn't half as picturesque as we thought it would be. And the prices were sky high! In a bakery we paid around 17 Swiss Francs for just 2 average sized cheese baguettes and a small bottle of water! The Matterhorn itself is a spectacular sight and that was our main reason for going. It was 36 euros each for the just 5 minute rack and pinion train ride! Our guide was brilliant!

Zamett was beautiful and the views of the Matterhorn were stunning. The coach journey was longer than anticipated but our guide Luca was exceptional, a lovely chap who was knowledgeable, friendly, helpful and humorous! ! Would recommend this trip with Luca as your guide without doubt!

This tour was led by an excellent guide who was deeply knowledgable, very approachable and attentive to the concerns and issues of his (mainly) elderly party. We were lucky with the weather which added to the pleasure of observing and photographing the breathtaking Matterhorn and its near neighbours. We also found the small climber’s cemetery a moving and inspiring place.
