Officially one of Italy's prettiest towns, Gerace definitely deserves all the attention it can get. And on this full day tour you'll travel to this photogenic medieval town for a walking tour and a tasting of products with bergamot – the green gold of Calabria.

After being picked up from your hotel you'll head deep into Calabria and climb the hills towards the medieval town of Gerace. From the top, you'll have views that extend all the way to the Ionian Sea and towards the Aspromonte mountains in the distance. Then, once you've captured the view, you'll hop on a mini-train to the centre of town for a walking tour.

There were once over one hundred churches here, but now you'll only see a select few, as well as other historic sites like the Byzantine castle. It's also the ideal setting for growing bergamot, known as the green gold of Calabria, and you'll get to taste a few products that contain it before returning to your hotel.

Lovely trip to a hidden gem as the tour name suggests. Our guide Mimi was very good and had excellent knowledge of Gerace as she lived in the area.. She also recommended a restaurant for lunch which was excellent and came with a few perks ie a taste of Almond wine and snacks and also a taste of bergamot. The little train trip was also a joy and the walk through Gerace a great experience.

The trip was geared up for a group, we prefer to go alone, which we did, however we had very little time to explore. Less than 2 hours, we were told to meet for the return journey at 1:30 outside the cathedral but the group didn't turn up until 2 so we lost 30 minutes doing nothing. It's a shame because a 3 hour stop would have been sufficient. The coach could have stopped outside the village at the panorama which would have saved another 20 minutes on the little shuffle train.
