Bay of Kotor Cruise with Our Lady of the Rocks

4/5
265 reviews

Montenegro's Bay of Kotor is the stuff of legends. Dramatic mountain scenery, shimmering blue waters and the walled town of Kotor make this fjord-like landscape a showstopper. You'll visit the famous Our Lady of the Rocks islet during a boat trip in the bay, before heading on to Kotor town. Ivana, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘Affectionately known as Boka by locals, they're proud the bay is a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its natural, cultural and historical importance. There's a strong artisan tradition in the area, and the towns are recognised for their fine architecture.'

After a drive along the Dalmatian coast, you'll board your boat and set sail towards the narrow strait of Verige, where the whole bay opens up, and you'll see why the Bay of Kotor is Montenegro's most famous destination. After passing by Perast, Stoliv and Prčanj, the first stop is the fairytale islet of Our Lady of the Rocks, somewhere Ivana loves. ‘Of all museums in the region, the one on the islet is my favourite to guide,' she says. ‘The church is like an art gallery, and the museum contains gems such as the Jacinta Kunić embroidery.'

Back on board, we'll tuck into a tasty lunch on board en route to Kotor town. Here, you'll have free time to explore this fortified medieval pearl packed with Venetian palaces. Visit the Cathedral of St Tryphon and its treasury, climb the city walls or browse the local market, where you can sample and buy local specialities such as smoked ham, sheep's cheese and brandy.

The excursion itself was very enjoyable with a very pleasant cruise, a good lunch, and time for a quick walk round Kotor. The only downside was the time it took to get across the border, two and a half hours each way! This meant that we didn’t get back until 10 pm, making the whole trip 14 hours. We could not recommend it until the EES system is sorted out.

Far too long spent in hotel pick ups and border crossing. Only got 1 hour in Kotor in a very long allay tour. Meal on boat very basic.

The guide Eva was brilliant. However the border crossing took 6 hours. There was nowhere to buy water. The toilet was a bucket in which you could see everyone else who had gone before. These are basic human rights. We were booked on to a different excursion but was convinced by our rep TJ to change for this as apparently it was better. To make things worse. When we got back to our TUI hotel, the dinner had finished and was left a plate of cold food which we didn’t eat and went to bed starving

The trip itself would have been lovely if it were not for the 3 hour wait to cross the border in to Montenegro and the same coming back. It was exhausting. The guide, Eva, and the coach driver were very embarrassed by the situation. The boat had too many people to be enjoyable, and the lunch was dry and tasteless, not helped by our late arrival I'm sure. Also, I did not appreciate the tip box being shaken vigorously by one of the crew as we were disembarking. Resulting in not enough Kotor time

We did not receive the experience expected. This was largely due to the c3hrs wait at border control going into Montenegro & c2.5 hour wait coming back. As we left our hotel on Kalamota 6.45am & did not return until 10.15pm this made for a very (unexpected) long day. Visit to the Lady of the Rocks island was great, as was the boat trip to Kotor. Unfortunately we only had 1hr 10mins in Kotor, which was a real disappointment. Kotor was extremely busy with cruise ship (3) visitors and very hot.

The boat trip was nice but the food horrible. It took far to long getting from Dubrovnik to Montenegro, by the time we picked up at all the other hotels it was nearly 11oclock before we were on our way to Montenegro. Then getting through boarder control it wasted most of the day. Poor value for the money
