Ancient city of Luxor guided tour with lunch from Hurghada

4.2/5
180 reviews

The ancient city of Luxor, with its towering monuments, sacred temples and mysterious tombs, is a world away from anything you’re likely to have laid eyes on before. On this full-day tour from Hurghada, you’ll explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site, which experts estimate to be home to a staggering third of the world’s ancient antiquities.

You’ll be up at the crack of dawn to get on the road and make the most of your time in Luxor. The good news is that the view from the bus window is pretty impressive, as you drive through the Eastern Desert’s rugged hills and red mountain ranges. When you arrive, it’s straight to the West Bank of the Nile to stare up at two enormous stone statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III. Known as the Colossi of Memnon, these giants guard the gateway to your next stop.

The Valley of the Kings is home to 63 royal tombs of great Egyptian Pharaohs, famously including Tutankhamun, and you’ll venture into three of them. As you descend into the cool tunnels, look out for vivid paintings and hieroglyphs along the walls until you reach the 3,500-year-old burial chambers – talk about a sense of awe!

Cross the Nile to the East Bank for lunch, where you’ll try local Egyptian delicacies before your final stop on this adventure into the ancient world. Karnak Temple is a little misleading as a name, as it’s actually a vast, sprawling religious complex of temples, chapels, statues and obelisks. It was built to worship Amun, the king of the gods and his wife and son, and each ancient dynasty expanded it over a 2,000-year period. Wandering through this open-air museum with your guide is an awe-inspiring end to a day that’ll stay with you long after you’re tucked up back in your Hurghada hotel.

The plus side was obviously the Valley of the Kings and The Temple in Luxor. However the 5 hour minibus journey including rest break both ways was an absolute nightmare. We also had a meal provided by a 5 star hotel - Steinberger something which was totally awful - we had to buy our own drinks even though we were mixed with the guests in there all you can eat buffet.

For a day trip this tour was good value for money and well worth the effort. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable about all subjects and the coach journey from place to place was comfortable. The locations themselves were very interesting and the lunch was good quality.

The guide was brilliant but disappointed that if we had booked trip with TUI rep it would have been cheaper than booking before we went

On Tuesday 29. 4 we went on a trip to Luxor with TUI. The guide Ahmedh described all the sights to us, warned us about possible dangers and guided us very well through all the destinations. The trip was very well planned with a pleasant boat ride across the Nile and a delicious lunch. Thank you, Saša

The tour guide & driver were brilliant, this is a TUI issue. For the amount paid, I did NOT expect to be taken to several shops and pressured into buying items. We seemingly had unlimited time in shops but were intensely rushed around the main sites we paid to see. The shops put on OTT performances and multiple staff members followed us and made us VERY uncomfortable. One shop falsely described as “going to a local house to understand culture”. I would not recommend this, I asked for refund
