Once known as the “North Korea of Europe,” Albania was closed off for decades under a strict communist regime. Today, it has opened its doors to the world—offering a fascinating contrast to its neighbor, North Macedonia. This unique day tour invites you to discover both the striking differences and surprising similarities between these two Balkan countries.

Travel comfortably by bus or minibus as you enjoy a complete scenic tour around Lake Ohrid, one of the most beautiful lakes in Europe. Along the way, you’ll stop at iconic and charming locations including the Bay of Bones, Pogradec, Lin, and Drilon.

In Pogradec, enjoy free time to relax and have lunch at your own pace. In the picturesque village of Lin, take a coffee break and stroll through narrow streets lined with traditional houses. For those who wish, there is an optional walk to the ancient Roman basilica—highly recommended for history lovers and photographers alike.

During the journey, you’ll also spot the famous concrete communist-era bunkers, silent reminders of Albania’s past, scattered across the landscape.

Know in advance:

Please note that on Tuesdays the tour will be held in Dutch, while the other days are provided with an English-speaking guide.
Please provide your pickup address at checkout and contact the local operator or TUI-representative after booking to confirm the pickup place and time.

Sunscreen and enough drinking water during warm weather
You'll need to present a valid ID or your passport on the border;
Please wear comfortable shoes

There was quite a lot of walking involved maybe this needs mentioning. The guide was very good but there's only so many times the scenery and bunkers can be mentioned. Also needs to be pointed out that there could be quite a long wait at border control especially on the return trip after quite a long day of getting in and out of the coach at the various stop off points. The air conditioning in the coach wasn't as good as it could have been. Would I recommend it? Possibly not .

Quite a slow start due to a mix up with another couples pick up location but once we got going it was a thoroughly enjoyable trip. Our guide Jane was very knowledgeable along the way giving us lots of information. The stops were enjoyable and we had plenty of free time to enjoy them.

The meeting time was a bit confusing. We booked as it wasn’t a too early start but it went from 9am to 7.55, Apart from that the trip was really good & the guide was very nice & helpful

The visit to Lin was particularly good and the whole trip was good overall. However, despite emailing the company direct to confirm pick up place and time we never received a reply. The two confirmations I received from Tui both said 9am pick-up. It was only when I confirmed the meeting point either the rep that she mentioned pick up time was 7.55! If we hadn’t asked we would have missed this trip. Talking to others in our group, the same thing had happened to them earlier in the week.
