From the same family as two of Tenerife's most popular attractions, Loro Parque and Siam Park, comes Poema del Mar aquarium in the heart of Las Palmas. Here you'll come face to face with over 300 marine species, including sharks, piranhas, clown fish and hundreds more. It promises a fun trip out for all the family.

With a panoramic 36-metre-long curved window and countless exhibitions, Poema del Mar is where you'll get lost in a hypnotic underwater world that's home to hundreds of sea creatures. There are electric eels, bull sharks and fish that look just like Nemo waiting to be discovered.

Lose yourself in The Jungle with creatures from different corners of the world, and head to the Reef where you'll encounter corals and fish of every colour imaginable. You can also take advantage of their state-of-the-art cinema, showcasing hourly screenings of interesting and fun short films, or venture to the Deep Sea with millions of litres of water. There's also free time to enjoy Las Palmas, Santa Catalina and Las Canteras beach.

The aquarium was very good, though also very busy. The one way system meant you could see everything but you can't go back.. Pick up and drop off all worked smoothly. The shopping centre next to the aquarium was a nice building but short of things to do. However, you were near enough to go into town if you wanted.

The main benefits of this TUI package are that we arrived before the aquarium became too busy and we reached the Nestor restaurant near the middle just in time for an early lunch/late morning snack. Our guide was brilliant. She prepared us for the experience, knew what she was talking about and pointed out interesting things on the journey. And we managed to spend some time in the nearby shopping centre.

Really this was a bus trip to the aquarium, which could have been done using Gran Canari's many excellent service buses. We had four hours at the aquarium but two wouls have been enough. There was a large shopping outlet we passed just outside Las Palmas where it would have been nice to stop.

having the information booklet on hand prior to getting in to the aquarium. no time to be looking at it when your in there. possibly get the booklet when making the booking with the tui staff.
